Isn’t this a repeat from several months ago? I remember because I made a comment about evolution being just like that and all the evolutionists went bananas and lost their minds. And plus4, you’re absolutely right. There is a definite bias in the science community. They are willing to consider any possibility, no matter how goofy, as long as it has nothing to do with GOD. I even heard one ‘researcher’ say that the intelligent way that life works (a point that he didn’t dispute) is because it’s possible that ALIENS from another world put life on Earth, but he ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to even consider the possibility that GOD did this. Granted, religion in general had done a pretty poor job of presenting who GOD is, but if a scientist refuses to even consider any possibility, whatever it may be, because he or she doesn’t like it, it invalidates all his or her work from that point on: as in “what OTHER possibilities is he not willing to even consider because he doesn’t like them, that is going to bias his research?”

I like the way Danae assigns brand new, socially acceptable names to very old and unworkable bad habits.

And I love the way she nailed BOTH science and religion with this one, haha.

Yes, as has been pointed out, for example in string theory, untestable hypotheses are not good science. Hypotheses that, even when tested and fail, and, like Danae does, continue to be accepted by denying the evidence, are not good science. It is always a danger: even the best professional scientists can cling to a familiar or beloved theory after it has been shown wrong. (Albert Einstein never did accept Quantum Mechanics), but that puts them out of the mainstream of developing science. So, in general, science (complete with testable predictions) is self-correcting, which is its great strength.

I to simply enjoy the comic for its witty humor!

We in medicine like to think we practice deductive reasoning. What she seems to be describing is inductive reasoning and that is how law is practiced. How else would a defense attorney get his guilty client off?

Scientists should not concern themselves with the ‘why’, and creationists should not concern themselves with the ‘how’.

That’s where all the trouble springs from … though it does make for great blogs!

The concept of evolution does not in any way interfere with my religion. I can believe in the repeatable science and at the same time have faith in my religion. To take it one step further, could we just be the contents of a drop of water in the petri dish of some kid in a science class in another world? How would the creation scientist treat that theory? In MHO evolution is the result of the survival of the fittest and strongest. It is sometimes the result of the less tasty or the quickest. Also in MHO, those who cannot believe in both evolution and their religion are sort of narrow minded. Non-sequitur has hit the nail firmly on the head with a big hammer.

I’m with nightowl57 – religion and science are 2 different entities and do not have to clash – I’m an anthropologist and I teach evolution but it does not have any impact on my religious beliefs.
