To Repeat – This too will pass, it shouldn’t, children were raped, a crime was comitted, but most other countries will do what the U.S. did, just quietly let it fade away.

They just used “Don’t ask, don’t tell”, since establishing the rule of “celibacy”.

^He’s an Aussie, so I would be surprised – but it’s possible. Ken, it hasn’t just faded away, the Church is fading away. Even in Boston, a Catholic stronghold, schools are losing students far faster than the Baby Bust would predict. Our kids’ grade school was down to 150 (of 500 max) when it was closed and merged with another school – which is still only around 200, and doing everything they can to attract students.

The funny part is that the Catholics subsidize this behavior.

Who is the Catholic priest, (in Boston or NY) who took out ad saying all the priests who molested children were homosexual and NOT pedophiles. He said the ones molested were post pubescient not young boys and girls. I believe from what I have read most abuse started with young boys and girls. They need to be required to report any abuse to the authorities. They should go back to allowing priests to marry like it used to be before the Vatican wanted all the priest’s estates thus reason for denying them marriage.

When he gets hit, bet he uses the Lord’s name in vain.

Oliphant is a catholic basher. It’s okay, at lease they won’t fly a plane into his building.

Right on, rikoshay. Count me in as another Catholic who’s totally disgusted with the hypocrisy inherent in the upper echelons of the Church.

Seems odd that the most vocal proponents of the church haven’t spoken up yet

Let’s take inventory:

1 The main charge against the Pope appears to be an unproven claim about a pedophile priest from Wisconsin 20 years ago.

2 Any criticism of abusing priests that connects them to homosexuality is unacceptable to the media.

3 Abuse of children by a few homosexual priests has been known for several years.

It is being rehashed during Holy Week with the Pope as the prime target. A coincidence?

This is not meant to excuse anyone who ever abused a child or did not act to prevent it.

Left to me I would castrate any man who raped a woman or homosexual who raped a boy.

The Catholic church won’t elect a female pope because its hierarchy is loaded with men who believe women are to remain subservient to men.

In Canada, the church have been extremely repressive up until Vatican II (check “Boys of Saint Vincent”, “Duplessis Orphans” and “Native Residential Schools” in Wiki). From the early 1900’s to the 1960’s, there was a popular slogan among Quebec piests; Le Ciel est Bleu, l’Enfer est Rouge” (Heaven is blue (the color of the conservative party), Hell is red (the color of the liberals).

In my part, Acadia, the church has been a bit more liberal and havwe a few good things to show for it; They founded most of the french-language hospitals in NB, (the first of which was in my native village, established to take care of an outbreak of leprosy in the 1800’s(‘http://tinyurl.com/TracadieLeprosy). take a look at that, religion and science never worked so well hand in hand for the good of Mankind. The nuns still running a women’s shelter. Religious congregationsfounded all three colleges that would be later fused to form my alma mater Université de Moncton. In Quebec, they also founded Université Laval and Université de Montreal, both part of the canadian equivalent of the Ivy League.

Today, catholicism in Acadia is in a bad shape. People don’t go to church anymore and many of them may be closed or demolished, including Cathedrale Notre-Dame de l’Asomption in Moncton. it is to acadians what Notre-Dame de Paris is to the french, what the National Cathedral is to you guys, what Westminster Abbey is to the british and what the Basilique Notre-Dame is to Quebec. Great figures of our religious history are burried there, and whenever an important Acadian dies, (like former premier and senator Louis-J- Robichaud and poet Gerald Leblanc), that’s where their funeral takes place.

I’m a buddhist, but as I said, I still have respect for the RHSJ nuns and I’m still an Acadian and Notre-Dame de l’Assomption a part of every acadian’s soul…

and Reason’s said something about the jews making fin of themselves, blacks calling eah other by the N word, and now you have femionists calling each other b*tches. It’s reappropriation of a slur or stereotype and i guess my name here is a prime example of that.

the rc church and the leaders of countries are ruled by men. if educated women were to be given a chance to have important posts in governments, there would be discussion on how to solve problems, not testosterone led aggression (war). the male of the species are consciously/sub-consciously aware that females are the stronger, in their own way, than the male and are afraid of having their tradition challenged. from day one, on this globe, there has been nothing but aggression and territorial take-over. wake up world, we’re going downhill, it’s time for a change !

Not that kind of change. That is a feministic thing to type. I heard that a woman is neither supposed to be below a man nor above a man, rather beside a man. Your encouraging a worship of females because they have certain parts. That’s pathetic.

I’m not all that sure if nuns had unchecked power they’d be that much better. Hey, didn’t one of the Spiceys say that a nun had tried to feel her up at some point?

BUT woman agressivity DOES exist (at small doses, iut makes us strong, it’s all about balance).

Women are inclined to think women are “a notch above” men because they judge by women’s standards, the same way that men will judge women (and find them wanting) by men’s standards.

Neither is better nor worse, but they’re undeniably different.

And the grass is always greener on the neighbor’s lawn; many men envy women’s womb, their capacity to give life (that’s why so many men are so obsessed by abortion) and many women do envy men’s penises (their pleasure).

I’ve known a lot of men who want to SIRE children, but very few who’d actually want to BEAR them, so I think “womb envy” is on the whole negligible. We want kids, sure, but we’re happy to subcontract the gestation of them. “Motherhood is an honor we dream not of.”

What men envy about women concerning actual child-production (I think) is the control and certainty: “Mommy’s baby, Daddy’s maybe.”

whatdoiknow, made some claims that need reply mostly because they are defensive and inaccurate. By way of disclosure, I am a Christian minister who is not anti-Catholic. Many of my RC colleagues (for whom I have great respect), have said what I am about to say, though they would never say it on the record.

1 The main charge against the Pope appears to be an unproven claim about a pedophile priest from Wisconsin 20 years ago. Response: This is far more than one “unproven claim”, but what on earth does the time have to do with it? This is about a systematic covering up and defending of the offending priests. The church has covered up the crimes of her priests and then placed those priests back in positions where they have regular and often unsupervised contact with children. One instance is unfortunate. A pattern is unconscionable. And Benedict is the head of this church – he has responsibility, even if you suggest he had no authority over the situation 20 years ago.

2 Any criticism of abusing priests that connects them to homosexuality is unacceptable to the media. Response: No, the connection is not made because it does not exist. Homosexuality is attraction to a person of the same gender. Pedophilia is attraction to and abuse of children, regardless of gender. These are very different. Attempts to connect the two are poor science and dishonest.

3 Abuse of children by a few homosexual priests has been known for several years. Response: Exactly! It’s been known for several years - but nothing has been done to hold the offending priests accountable, at least nothing by the church. Even last week, a report came out about two priests in California who missed conviction on a technicality. So what did their bishop do? Put them back into ministries with children. The pope is responsible for this because he has oversight over all of them. By the way, it is not “a few” priests. It is a wide-ranging group throughout the world, and so far, the RC Church has a very poor record of holding them accountable.

This is not an Anti-Roman-Catholic thing - it’s anti-abuse of children and anti-cover up.
