Peter: What's with the kiddie dress? Paige: It's to replace the one of Katie O'Dell's taht she destroyed while I was babysitting. It's amazing how one little mistake can be so expensive. This dress cost me four nights' pay. Plus I had to spend a whole two hours apologizing to Katie's Mom for falling asleep! Still, the experience has taught me a few things. Peter: Oh? Paige: For starts, a new way to have fun with dad. Roger: Andy, have you seen the size of the back-to-school outfits our daughter is buying?!

What’s not funny about it?
Never mind, I think I’ve answered myself. If one can suspend disbelief (and summary judgment) on the ironies of a dysfunctional family like the Foxes, then one can laugh at their foibles.
Some ironies hit closer to home with any one reader than others do. I have no family, but I don’t have a lot of hair and tofu to me tastes pretty much like nothing at all. :) FT for me is funniest when Jason’s involved, as he and I were a lot alike (save that I never disliked girls at any time). It’s least funny when it reminds me of my deadbeat dad.

The only reason it functions is because of Andy. She leaves, everything falls apart.
