South Korea fears the hell out of a collapsed North Korea. There is absolutely no one in N.K. who could take over and lead. S.K. would drown under the flood of refugees. It would be a disaster.

Germany is still dealing with the reunification. Unemployment in many cities in the East is 25%. In some parts of the East the old communist party (renamed of course) wins elections by running the same politicians that were in power before the wall fell.

The North Korea situation is even worse though. East German workers were 25-30 years behind in manufacturing and technology, but they knew many of the basics. North Korea is over 100 years behind. North Korea beats all self-motivation out of their people. They are totally unprepared to live in a free market society. North Korea needs to be modernized technically and socially before they can just be set loose.

Kim has made it so that the country can’t be run without him. It was brilliant, because now no outside force will remove him from office.
