I haven’t read the books. I do this from memory. And several years of cobwebs have collected. This strip is like finding an old stack of comic books. Some story lines I remember, some I don’t. But it’s all good fun.

Go on, Calvin, vacation certainly will be funny!

I think it’s the other way around: Mom and Dad need a vacation from Calvin - but I don’t think they can find anyone to put up with that dear sweet boy for a week.

I see a 100% chance of rain in the 7 day forecast, unless this will turn out differently from what I recall reading way back when.

There have been several vacation storylines over the run of this comic, This definitely isn’t the “Character Building” one as I remember it. No spoilers about that one, I don’t like doing that to people.

Calvin, I hope you will not get so bored while you and your parents go on the vacation for a month. Take Hobbes with you to keep you company so you will not become a BOOOOORRRRRRRRRRREEEEEED!

On the other hand they could take a real break and leave him at home with Roslyn to look after him - what sweet revenge that would be!

Waterson perfectly captured the gen-x/millenial generation even before it was fully realized. A month of planning? If it didn’t happen in the last 8 hours, they have no recollection of it. An entire generation with no memory of the past.

And those who do not learn from history are doomed…

I remember too the impending lark the camping trip becomes. Oh, Dad shall wish he left ol’ Calvin at home after he has to listen to Calvin on the road for a few hours…..

Is this thread the one where Calvin’s dad makes issue about Calvin’s always wanting hamburgers at food-stops?

It’s not the Hamburger one, and it’s not the one where it rained the whole week either. In fact, compared to the other camping trips I remember, this one is not that great.

Dad: You’re right… what kinda vacation is that with you? Am I stupid or what? Hobbes, com’on..letz go!! There will be tiger babes!!

They should leave Calvin with Rosalyn. When they get back, he’ll treat them like the greatest parents ever.

Just wait 10 or 15 years. They will go to Mexico or Europe, and he’ll be begging to go, too.

If only it were just Hobbes, he could go to Animal Adventure Ranch, where I live. It is a hotel for cats/dogs/rabbits/goats/llamas/anything. We dropped off our Dobermann and Dalmation while we had my sons’ family visiting recently. My husband and I downsized , and we just didn’t have room for my son, his wife, and 3 granddaughters, and their dog, cat, two turtles, and a fish, plus our other sons two huge dogs. So! Doggie day and night care was great!
