what happened so far was fate but this moment is that moment in the multiverse where you can move to any of the innumerable ways which at the next moment will be again part of the destiny which defines the path you are more likely to take by one more moment’s certainty

Calvin, you have become a Calvanist. Rather than “fate” you need to talk and think in terms of “predestination”.

Calivin is a fatalist when someone want to blame him for things - when the problem lies elsewhere - that’s not fate at all.

Not to get too serious here but this strip gets me wondering who Hobbs is? I’m sure he isn’t Calvin’s imagination because Hobbs knows things Calvin doesn’t and, like today’s strip, Hobbs does things that is a surprise to Calvin. Since no one but Calvin else sees Hobbs could he be a spirit inhabiting the stuffed animal such as a poltergist (playful spirit)? Any thoughts?

No, he was fated to think his stuffed animal was a tiger, and that he would think it tripped him in the mud.

or it’s quite possible that fate is a simple idea, like the internet….didn’t see that one coming, did you now?

Calvin set himself up for that one, and many more to come. That is just an excuse for Hobbes to terrorize Calvin and blame it on fate.

Hobbes is a stuffed toy. Calvin just tripped and wasn’t paying attention, but rather than admit his fallibility, he blames Hobbes for it.

Jeez, some people forget what it was like to be a kid with a wild imagination. You need to read Little Nemo!

Like eleventeen, number eighter (numerator) and imaginary numbers? The imagination can be a powerful thing. But what it comes right down to is - Don’t ask! Enjoy!

Funny thing is, Calvin of Geneva believed in “double predestination”, which means that you are predestined to either h e l l or heaven, and there’s nothing you can do to change it. Isn’t that another way of saying fate?
