Thank you apartheid! Without this, Africa would never be in the turmoil it is in today!

d_lengendary: Not sure about the comment regarding apartheid, do you rather mean colonialism? Arbitrary borders drawn up by colonial powers? Plain ol’ racism? Apartheid was simply a Seperate Development Policy to provide a legal veneer to racism and only offcially called “apartheid” from 1948 (although the British had a defacto segregation policy in place before) I understand the USA had similar laws (Jim Crow?) until fairly recently, 1965. So I suppose you’ll agree it contributed to some of the turmoil still being experienced today in the USA.

Yep, it was sold as being multiculturalist with mutual respect of cultures (read races) allowing equal but separate development for each race. I never once observed the equality nor respect yet it was still taught in school as a respectful policy. Aardvark, spoor and veldt are all Afrikaans words introduced into mainstream English but baaskap, along with apartheid, are the unfortunate ones also now commonly recognised.

This notion of baaskap, this paternalism towards blacks by whites, was almost inculcated from birth. Whites seemed to think that blacks were children, needing to be led and unable to make their own decisions.

This attitude of baaskap can sometimes be discerned in some of the West’s present day dealings with regards the continent of Africa as a whole.

No need to apologise, I’m still no authority on it!

Ahem. To whomever reads the above posts, be aware that the other person with whom I was having this good chat, had his posts removed for a perceived misdemeanour elsewhere. I really don’t often chat with myself.

So long as I remember the meds. Ahem ok, you can move along now.

Oldlegodad: I read the comments right from the start and watched how the confrontation from others unfolded. The satire was not understood innocently by the Dutch poster who did not know Satipera & was unaware he’s English. Satipera, on the other hand, was confrontational which escalated the posting; with others chiming in and many deliberately misunderstanding and capitalised on the controversy by flagging. Others who were aware of the satire still took offence as they stated it was taking it too far. Not many liked Satipera because of his confrontational arguments , and let’s be honest, his arrogance; and that was why the situation escalated, others simply took advantage of it to stab the guy in the back.

Oldlegodad, you have shown to be racist yourself. It is crass hypocracy on your part to gleefully gloat over Satipera’s banning while publically showing your prejudices.
