It is distasteful to smear at times like this, I’m not sure what you hope to accomplish

ANandy obviously never met Bork!! ANandy obviously never met Kennedy. ANandy obviously has no thoughts of his own. ANandy should be pitied for all the things he has given up in favor of Limbaughmican lunacy!!!

Was there actually a few moments there where Congress tried to get along? I doubt it so much.

yes it was a terrible incident, no doubt about it. since then kennedy grew up, grew responsible, but more than that, grew into a man of longstanding high stature worthy of the moniker “Lion of the Senate”. i have to think of those of us whose (tks ash) families are less than perfect … addicts, reckless drivers, theives, cheaters … who atoned and went forward to great accomplishment. do we forever condemn them for a mistake? have the self righteous finger-pointers never sinned? have they accomplished more for the “least of these” in our country than kennedy? if so, let him/her say so.

No, HOWGOZIT, but it is an opportunity to reflect on someone’s entire life and career instead of what they’ve done this week.

parker says it all. Senator Kennedy attoned for his sin by going on to champion the disadvantaged with his legislation. He worked very diligently for 40 some years.

he turned JFK’s basic philosophies on its head; he was the most partisan senator, ever; he introduced philosophy as a ‘valid’ test for judiciary; in spite of his earlier failings, he proved to be a strong matriarch of his extended family; in face of enormous family trials he proved to be incredibly strong and resilient.

And then your brain froze - negating the substance.

peter, could you hold off on the insults for even two sentences? I did think I should have added that you seemed to be making an effort, which I appreciated. I agree with the last half (starting with “in spite of his earlier failings”) given the typo, but the first half I believe to be zero-for-three. JFK believed in helping the poor (campaigning in dirt-poor West Virginia shocked the bejesus out of him) and introduced Medicare, for one; “most partisan senator, ever” is rather difficult to prove and arguably wrong since he collaborated on legislation with Orrin Hatch and John McCain, among many others (and I came from North Carolina, home of Jesse Helms, who really deserves the title); and your third point is highly debatable, since that kind of thing probably goes back to the first Congress!

ANandy, Cheney isn’t dead.

“JFK believed in helping the poor …” So what? Most Republicans do as well - with their own money. Its called charity. Most importantly however, JFK believed i Capitalism and personal responsibility - flowing toward the government, rather than the reverse - Socialism that Teddy espoused.

What terrorist? So far the only people that have been wire tapped are left wingers, soldiers doing bed time talk with their wives or girlfriends, and americans abroad. So unless these people are working for Al-Queda I don’t see the need to spy on our fellow Americans.
