At least he’s coming up with a response - mine plays deaf when he panics like that.

Careful, Ed, Natalie has some pointy elbows and she’s not afraid to use them.

What about the cats on the other side of the room?

    You know…

Chesney, Jack, Lily, Route 9, Bluebell, Woof, Jellybean, This Side Up, Mr Hollingsworth…

Bucky, Leo Fatcat and his brother Bob, Elvis, Puck, Lupin, Tommy, Ludwig, Peekaboo, Muffin. I could go on because there are a lot of cats on the comics.

    Oh, wait, mustn’t forget Oliver.

    Hi, everybody!

Tonight we’re here on the January 14th 2009 Ballard Street strip, to post our comments on

the Jan 14th2019   “CLEO and COMPANY”

Which you will find on Sherpa:

    http://www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cscwy

    And what a find!

    Nighthawks, you’ve outdone yourself!

    How many cats?

I’m too busy trying to identify them all to count.

I knew all but 4… but checking my suspicions on the internet led me to identify two of those.

Still workin’ on the last two.

Ed, Ed… just come out and say it.

I’m always doing what you’re doing…. sitting here for ages sanding the rough edges off my posts….

polishing the corners, sharpening the nuances…

and meanwhile other people slip in and post ahead of me.

    Phooey!

Anyhow… I hope you’re not still hiding when we all get there…

Natalie invited us all for grilled cheese sandwiches, with our Cleo commentary…. along with a bowl of her wonderful chicken vegetable soup.

    I’m bringing chocolate chip brownies.

    See you soon!

I don’t know who all of them are, but I would love to see all of them start to purr and rub up against Cleo and make her blush. That evil cat next door would be taking video and threatening to release it unless Cleo sets out cat food and tuna every day.

He always had trouble putting his response into actual words rather than raspberries.

It’s a safe bet that Tom didn’t kill the mouse. Perhaps it was the Cheshire cat.

Loved the Cheshire cat! Pretty clever NH. The one cat you can’t figure out……looks like something from the Felix the Cat era.

Oh no! I just figured out, we’re going to see this on a “Find 9 Differences” Saturday! Yippee!

And to think I was satisfied with the punch line in panel four and almost missed scrolling down to the big reveal!

Wasn’t the one with the hairball a Smokey Stover character?

    Ok…. first…. Nighthawks…. sigh….. That’s the only one left that I can’t identify…. yet I really feel like I’ve seen it before.

    I was hoping YOU knew!

I couldn’t decide whether it looked actually old or, you know, retro-vintage….

I thought it was Fleischer, but it also reminded me of the Animaniacs guys…. not the Disney-ish cat, but the three ambiguous title animals drawn like 1930’s characters.

However, in the wee hours, before I even went to bed, I googled various versions of Bimbo dog, who occasionally was a cat(!), other Fleischer characters, all the Animaniacs, and everything else I could think of.

I even excerpted that kitty from your picture, uploaded it to postimage, and did both Google and Bing image searches…

They found nothing! Dang! But we will, one of these days.

    Alexi… 17.

Counting 2 Siamese (so one of them doesn’t feel left out), and that guy outside the window.

Rotifer… Grumpy and Doc do feel left out.

    Steve… Groening, yes… More specifically, I think it’s the Simpson’s cat, Snowball.

I haven’t been naming them, to preserve it as a puzzle for those who still want to try.

Tomorrow I will if anybody asks… Though maybe Nighthawks will first.

Montana Lady… so good to see you here!

And x_Tech… better NOT leave out Oliver!
