re: last night’s sign off 3D picture: The Statue of Liberty in NYC!
and, Number Six, that’s it for me too! I’ve looked at so many of them now (since I now know how to do it), that I got this nagging little headache (I just spent 20 minutes at x_Tech’s link from last night for 3D pictures).
I remember that one well, Number Six. Of course I ought to; I read the entire collect earlier this year. Now I’m just about finished with my Peanuts collection, which goes up to 1970.
I remember every time I see those numbers on my clock, every time I see a poppy and every time I see a veteran. I grew up going to the cenotaph on Remembrance Day. We just had a service today.
Today also was the 168th Anniversary of our church. That goes back to before Confederation in 1867. On this side of the pond anything over 100 years old is amazing.
I find it hard to believe, Shika. Canada, as a country, is so very young, but there must be some structures that lasted longer than the early days of Confederation.
My Irish won last night and my Cowboys won today against a division rival. And the Giants lost. The Falcons are no longer undefeated, thanks to the Saints. Overall, it’s been a great weekend.
Shika, I’m sure that Fellow Baby can do much better, but I have all of C&H, 1950-1970 of _Peanuts, everything from Adam @ Home save one that’s on my wish list, everything released on Overboard and everything released from this strip. Of course, I also have all the old B.C. pocket books I could get my hands on…which is most of them save some hard to acquire issues.
And there is a reproduction of Fort Ste. Marie among the Huron near Midland, Ontario. The Huron Indians were wiped out by the Iroquois. The Jesuit Priests there, famously, Fr. Brebeuf, also were martyred there by the Iroquois. Hence, Martyr’s Shrine. The fort with its long houses would have gone back to the 1600’s and earlier.
Grog, I would love to collect all those myself, but I don’t have the time or money. I also had to clear out a lot from my apartment for health reasons.
I think we all like our dominoes to fall the right way Grog. It is much neater and vastly more satisfying than having two fall and the rest stand like leering sentinels.
I’ve always heard of “Remember the Alamo”. What are you supposed to remember about it?(Warning note to newcomers here: I do know how to google and I’m not asking for a lecture. Just a short answer).
Shika, if you’d seen the movie, starring John Wayne, you’d know. But all 120 + who died at the Alamo against over 7,000 Mexican soldiers, did so to give Houston time to build his army.
As I recall only 20 or so were Army under the command of Col. Travis. The remainder were volunteers, some of which were under the Tennessee volunteers led by the legendary Davey Crockett. Col. Bowie led his own Texas volunteers.

And here I thought the news blurb about Hillary in the NH primary poll for 2016 was just kitty litter.

I wouldn’t vote for her any more than I’d vote for Bill.
Good Morning, cleo, sugar, Fellow Baby & the rest of the CD gang!

Cuddles, I am tired of political ads and I do not think that you would be a good candidate. Everything you attempt turns out badly.

How was your day Grog?

I used to have a pretty extensive Peanuts collection. Also Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes. I only have a few left.

Fortunately, the Alamo was preserved and restored. I still haven’t gone to see it, but one of these days…..

Grog, did you see Pooch Cafe today? I thought that it combined humour and remembrance well. Pretty funny!!

My BIL worked for the historic sites I have mentioned for 40 years. He retired last year. Gov’t jobs are good that way. He is still young.
