    Iraq hasn’t had a halfway decent government since Abd al-Karim Qasim was overthrown and murdered in the Ba’athist coup of 1963, sponsored, as so much else in Southwest and Central Asia, by the US and the UK. As to the «good motives» behind these continual interventions, suffice it to recall Winston Churchill’s memo of 1919 arguing that poison gas should be deployed against Iraqi tribesmen who were resisting the establishment of British rule over the former Ottoman provinces in Mesopotamia. Sound familiar ?…
