    These strips depicting Jazmine’s rejection of the label “black” and Huey’s one-sided applying it to her, were very controversial when they ran, and probably still are. They tap into a very, very raw vein in the American social fabric, one with a lot of brutal history behind it, and the scars of which still influence a lot of people’s thinking today.

    She is just Black! Like I am just Black! If you aren’t from Africa you aren’t African American!! I hate that…gah!!
