Mom: I want to give some business to the struggling gift shop down the street...I want to give some business to the little bookstore and help them keep their doors open...I want to give some business to my favorite bakery...florist...card shop...and, of course, give some business to all the worried stores in the mall! Cathy: and mom wonders where I learned to always do too much... Mom: That's just local. Want to see my global list?

As half owner of a small business I can appreciate the sentiments today – even if we are not a retail store. Really quiet here today! Quick visit myself. Just finished packing up after doing the lighting for the local dance school Christmas recital. Really enjoyed it – even if every muscle in my body hurts – and I didn’t even dance!

Hi Cathyites!! We did support our local yarn shop today — Ewe-nique in Royal Oak MI. Also went to a lovely Bead and Gem show and bought from vendors we have gotten to know over the years. And we hit the local Farmer’s Market. Not a bad day for us. When I taught Women’s Studies, I showed a film about WalMart which showed all of their lousy labor practices — including being the only store around that sent their employees down the street to apply for food stamps because they all qualified.
