Cathy is absolutely right on this one. I remember once I was at a party wearing a sundress and someone I worked with complimented me on it and asked why I never wore it to the office. Same reason I don’t wear anything that bares my shoulders in church. I don’t look down on those who do, but I simply can’t do it. Couldn’t do it when I was in my 20’s and 30’s, and still can’t.

See? Aaron’s theory at play again — everyone around Cathy is a nutjob. Poor girl, she doesn’t stand a chance at being normal all the time. lightenup if you’re done with the brain bleach . . . GIMME! Panel 4. Argh, my eyes!!

Off to my lab for a while. I was going to sleep in this morning but I’ve been up since 6:30. Sigh. LMB will keep me company at work this morning.

Times change so quickly…when was this strip written? 5 years ago? bare legs and toes, and bare belly buttons are all over the place. Professional?

Bare legs and bare toes by either sex is unprofessional, except in California, unless by now they’ve gone back to more “normal” attire. It’s also distracting. This outfit is “professional” in one sense, if you walk the street for a living. I guess the salesladies forgot about dress codes. That “career” outfit is a joke. In the places I worked in, the person wearing that outfit would’ve been sent home to change, or she would have been given a reprimand. Cathy is finally showing some common sense. :-)

I’m in my 20’s and in my third year of law school. It baffles me what passes for professional dress these days. I’m a bit of a prude, I admit, but all my skirts and dresses come to my knees, and I never go without hose or tights. I also don’t wear open toed shoes or platform stilettos. The thing that really kills me is that these educated, professional women dress provocatively then complain about not being taken seriously or being objectified. Take yourself seriously girls! I got to where I am by my brain, not my body, and I’ll be darned if I’m going to undermine my own accomplishments by “accessorizing” with cleavage!

Good morning everyone. Will someone explain to me the extreme difference in male and female fashion? Men wear layers of loose – to the point of falling off – heavy fabric, giving away no hint of the shape of the body underneath. Females wear very thin, skin tight, barely covering the necessary parts, revealing all.I think in the interest of fairness we should reverse the process for a while. The only place to see any male skin these days is WWE

@Tara — this version of Cathy is from 2001.

I like that EMS crew has to wear the same uniforms, male or female. The last thing we need is distractions, but trust me that I’ve seen a lot of nekkidness in my life. Billy’s office crew and lab crew dress pretty sensibly. There is the odd man out (or woman) once in a while, but it’s rare.

Billy up at 6:30 on a Saturday - geez bud, you really do hate ‘home alone’ huh? :( Me too, so I understand. Hello fellow Cathyites Half a day of training today. Yesterday’s surprise drill was a controlled explosion (that we didn’t know about) during our train derailment exercise. I’m almost ready for anything at this point.

Mom! I think you just needed a /h1 or /h2 (in brackets of course) to get back to normal text size. But thanks for that large hello. :-D

Oh geez, weird formatting again. And it got me ‘between the eyes’ too.

Hi everyone! My routine is so thrown off here. I slept in a little this morning, but since there’s no computer in the kitchen, I couldn’t read comics while eating breakfast. Here you go, Billy, here’s the brain bleach… Hopefully we’re done for the week. ;-)Good for you, notinksanymore and others for having standards! I cringe anytime I see someone who is wearing clothes that are too casual at work. I’ve always worked at software companies, so the dress code is relaxed but I’ve always worn nice pants and a nice top. I’m not a fan of dresses or skirts, so that is my compromise. I’m also a fan of uniforms at school, but that’s a hard sell.p.s I’m trying to find time to get lightenup jr to respond to all of her birthday wishes, so I apologize that we’re really late on that.

And have you seen what they are selling as little girls’ clothes nowadays? They look like mini street walkers. It is hard to find affordable modest clothes; my child ended up insisting on jeans and tees for every day, and not tight ones either.

Aack!!!!! That manager’s hideous, skimpy outfit makes me want to borrow some of lightenup’s “brain bleach” to scrub this awful picture out of my head . . . unfortunately, I’m afraid it wouldn’t help as this whole scene is now permanently burned onto my poor corneas! Ouch!!! Ouch!!! The pain!!!!!

Happy Saturday, Aaron, Dr. Billy, lightenup, K.F.G., Susan, Mona, lindz.coop, rgcviper, hendelca, summerdog, gmforde, soonergal, serenasakitty, kittycatpawsare and all the rest of the “Cathy” fanatics joining us here tonight. As always, good to “see” you all!

    ;-)

Hi Cathyites!! I too need the brain bleach!! OMG is she hideous! I go back to the days when we couldn’t even wear slacks to work — let alone the stuff I see today (and I DID wear minis, so I’m not that much of a prude). I went to a dance performance tonight and there were several in the audience wearing a skirt that didn’t cover their rear end when they stood up. This coupled with 6 inch stilettos was simply overwhelming — especially watching the perpetual tugging at the skirt:(
