Unfortunately, this was another booby trap by the prior administration. I suppose, Biden could have tried to fight it and wasted taxpayer money doing so. As it is, the fight for democracy and the laws to apply equally to everyone takes precedent. There’s also a good chance drilling will never happen. This would be an expensive venture, given the location. With more and more electric cars being sold, there’s a good chance the oil companies may abandon drilling there, even before they start drilling.

We shouldn’t drill in certain areas of AK. Caribou can’t cope with human presence in their calving areas.

There is a very good chance that the lease won’t be used, as Giant Shetland Pony has pointed out. The oil companies have several leases in other places, that aren’t as sensitive, that they aren’t using. They could drill those leases and increase our oil supply, but they don’t want to do that. The price of oil has gone down, but the price at the pump continues to be artificially high. The oil companies continue to gouge the consumers and take unprecedented profits.

See, Tucker? This is how it’s done. You can actually call out the people on your own team when they screw up. You don’t have to just keep pretending that they can do no wrong, despite abundant evidence to the contrary.

Biden is not a progressive. Just like Obama, they made promises to get more Democratic votes but then governed from the middle.

Here’s what bothers me about this. Aren’t politicians allowed to change their mind, especially as the world/ politics changes? I would expect someone in charge to adapt as situations change. I believe a big part of this decision was when the Saudi’s said “No” to increasing oil production last year during the shortage. Most of the countries that are oil rich are not stable and we should have a back up. I say this as a person who is pretty eco conscious. This is more about security than anything else.

The oil company owns the land! Also the oil company owns the land! It was a compromise to keep them from using ALL of the land that they own! GiantShetlandPony is right on how it would have gone to the courts where many of the judges were appointed by the Republicans. Take the TX abortion pill abortion, for example.

I absolutely like the idea of green energy. However we are not at the point where we can get rid of fossil fuels. These electric cars go 220-250 miles on a charge are not enough charging stations to go around in many areas of the country. Plus it seems each brand of car needs their own type of charger instead of making a universal connection. Who was the DA that came up with that idea?? And how much energy does it take to make these batteries? You have to mine the materials out of the ground, you have to process and refine these materials. That takes a lot of energy. And that’s before you even start the manufacturing processes which takes more energy. California is having rolling blackouts now. Texas actually has one of the largest green energy capacities around and they are a basket case.

Biden has surprised me by how much improved his policy positions as President have been compared with many previous ones he held earlier as both Senator and VP.

But, boy howdy, does he ever have a propensity for writing checks with his mouth he later has to tear up, throw away, and rewrite — all to the great advantage of his political adversaries.

Does he learn from these repeated mistakes? No. Never. His mouth continues to write checks his Presidential a$$ has little, if any, chance of cashing.

He’s still having one of the most productive Presidential terms of the past century (3rd behind Roosevelt and LBJ).

Yep, it really stinks that we need to expand drilling and oil exploration. Tough decision that had to be compromised on by the current administration to keep the country on solid energy footing. Hard to move forward with so many right wing extremist politician anchors holding us back from energy independence. Some of those anchors are long dead and gone but their negative contributions to our nation’s energy infrastructure are still being felt.

So they complained “Biden is preventing them from drilling for oil! That’s why gas prices are high!” ANd so he allows drilling and they still complain.
