The handle grip at the end of Sven’s pick axe here could be useful on a shovel, but doesn’t seem right (neither useful nor helpful) on a pick axe.

The sign makes sense. Sven (or svend) translates from Scandinavian languages as either “journeyman” or “fellow”.
It’s usually 1 or 2 at work and the other 5 or 6 “supervising”.
Pillaging the sewers.
In case he has an accident, Sven always brings an extra pair of plunderwear.
