I’d be overjoyed to have such a person cut me off. Text, phone, or in person. I wish I had a nickel for every time I’ve thought, “How can I get out of this conversation gracefully?”
I knew someone at work who was always up and positive. She would ask me how I was doing, and I would always say, “terrible.” She would always reply, “That’s great!”
There’s something that frosts my pumpkins… don’t ask me how I am, if you don’t want to know. It annoys me to no end when someone opens with, “how are you, how are you doing,?” etc., then, immediately, goes right into what they want, rather than even wait for a “Reader’s Digest” version of how I am.

Another reason why it’s always better to talk to a person in person…

So what do we “call” this? “The Call of the Vile?” Or just… phoney?

“I feel OK.” is not usually a good opener for conversation.

“Take care” isn’t much better, if you don’t mean it. Interviewers on CBC sound a bit over-intimate when they say it to people they’ve never met.
