I remember one Christmas my wife and I bought my daughter a video game console. The following year around Christmas we told my daughter that Santa Claus did not exist and that we were the parents who bought the gifts. She didn’t believe it, she said that we didn’t have that much money for gifts

My kids had an appreciation for the limited resources of the “Bank of Dad.”

Until kids work and make money and learn to appreciate things, or their parents train them from the get go ….they think it the great bank of bottomless funds.

Growing up, we played with simple toys, played outside, rode our bikes and used our imagination a lot!

Savour the moment.. little kids think you are Gods, won’t be long though before they know you are incapable of empathy or generosity.

Had a coworker complain about how his teenager was often mad at him for not being able to afford to buy his teenager the same expensive electronics that his friends had. I suggested that my coworker sit down with his teenager and show him the monthly bills (rent, utilities, food, etc.) and explain to him all of the real life expenses that a household has – and their importance compared to electronic toys.

Hadn’t occurred to me coworker to do that. After doing so, his teenager was still sullen but understood better. Sadly, they don’t teach kids these things in school.

I want to be so rich I don’t feel the need to reuse Zip-Lock baggies.
