A book I read a while ago, “The United States of Paranoia: A Conspiracy Theory” (Walker, 2013) was a pretty good take on our inclination to go down those rabbit holes. I’d argue it’s not unique to Americans, but it really dives into some real whackadoodle thoughts.
I just learned that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Tell me that’s coincidence. They were both poisoned by the CIA.
I had a boss who once said: “never attribute to incompetence what can easily be explained by conspiracy” . . . or was that the other way around? . . . Whatever!

one thing Washington actually warned about in his farewell address was a bloated military, … and we’ve got it in spades.

I suppose that conspiracy theories have taken the lead over TV soap operas… one can really directly participate in a good conspiracy theory…
