It just so happens to be that next month is the 100th anniversary of the most famous victim of the KIng Tut mummy’s curse—namely the death of Lord Carnarvon, who funded the discovery by Howard Carter of King Tut’s tomb 100 years ago this past November. This, of course, was the inspiration for future Hollywood mummy movies in the 1930s and 1940s.
“Ray” is obviously “Ra”, but I don’t know who “Hokh Ptui” is supposed to be. There is a “Heka” (God of Magic), and a “Ptah” (God of Memphis). If you put them together, you get something close; “Heka-Ptah” (God of Magic in Memphis?)… ☺
I thought Dill was the one who stuck things up his nose, though, if we are all being honest, I bet we have all tried it at one time or another. Peanut MnM’s were my go to.
“Social Studies Interactive Verbal Skill Acquisition Learning” is quite the mouthful, and looks sort of sinister. Gov. DeSantis would send those weasels packing in a jiffy, I’m telling you.

Hokh-Ptui sounds more like a coal miner’s deity. … And I just can’t imagine an Egyptian undertaker sayin’ “OK now, pass me the Mayo”.

Only a person with a license to buttonhook has one.

Mummies in horror movies used tools nastier than buttonhooks to extract the brains of the living.

I was happy that Brendan Fraser won the Best Acting Oscar this year because of the great Mummy horror movies he did over two decades ago.

Petey’s Egyptian Mummy is more fun for him now that his own scary Mummy Otterloop, who is trying to make him play soccer.

Well, I’m half way to being mummified since I’ve put away my share of Mayonnaise (Dukes, of course)

No buttonhook: thank goodness! Can you imagine the mayhem if Petey or especially Alice did have a buttonhook and began to experiment?
I am pretty sure ancient Egyptian mummies were in fact not stuffed with mayonnaise and garlic.
But the god Hokh-Ptui is still worshipped by some people I’ve known, who engaged in a more urgent version of his ritual (panel 4)….
einarbt about 1 year ago
Well that went dark in the last panel, at least they seem related.
