Normally a February thing, where you step outside, see that it’s only minus ten, and say to yourself, “Oh! It is actually pretty nice today”

You know you’ve arrived at your destination when the heater finally ‘starts’ to emit warm(ish) air and the defroster has cleared a fist sized hole in the ice on the windshield. The ice on the inside.

North Idaho is similar, but I think overall much warmer. Upstate Bew York was living hell if hell froze over.

Yup, reminds me of the 20 years I lived in Vermont. Same things happening to them right now. Strangely after you have lived in that type of climate, your blood thickens, and your body can tolerate the cold much easier than someone coming from a warmer climate.

I use to just wear a sweatshirt and old jeans to work on the dairy farm in the winter. Very often without a coat. Always had work gloves on though. Manure wasn’t getting anywhere near my skin, but on my clothes no problem.

I remember thinking the weather was warming up when it went from -55° to -20° in northern BC.

I’m grateful that when I lived where it snowed the lowest low was generally 10 below, and that only a couple of times a year.

My car notifies me every time it’s under 38F/3.3C. A big federal safety yellow-orange with a snowflake in the middle shows up on the dash and a temperature announcement stays at the top of the console screen. I have no idea why 38F was picked for the “oh no—it’s cold!” temperature because it has to get and stay colder than that in Bavaria.

We got 1/4 of an inch of snow, here in NYC. Broke a record for the longest streak of not getting measurable snow. But we will be a balmy 9 degrees, Friday night and have a high of 18 degrees on Saturday. Beach weather, for sure!
