Interest payments are currently about 9% of revenue. It would be wonderful to have that money for other things. However, it’s not bad enough to shut down the government over. Instead of a dollar debt ceiling make it an interest payment ceiling as a percent of revenue. For example, debt interest is not to exceed 10% of revenue.
Now our citizens are leveraged to the hilt due to the Federal Reserve and irresponsible politicians with their ridiculous social agendas and our massive world wide military presence.
Sadly, debt is usually resolved with war. In this case it will be the conquering forces of the Globalists imposing their command and control agenda on us as well as physical war with their surrogate powers (think Ukraine for the moment). The people in debt are usually conquered by their lenders.
War is a racket. I would offer the corollary that debt is the fuel of war.
There is discretionary spending, and there is non-discretionary spending. Cut back on the discretionary spending first…like a Bazillion Dollars a year for the Defense Department to buy weapons THEY DON’T EVEN WANT, OR NEED… and giving member of "Con"gress more raises…but leave programs that actually HELP PEOPLE alone…
@Free or Not? You have an…odd view of history. First of all, national debt is not the same thing as personal debt. Second of all, if you’re going to call out irresponsible politicians, you need to call out the Republican Party. The national debt goes down under Democrats and massively up under Republicans.
After running for decades on a “reduce the debt” platform, Reagan launched it into space once in office. So did Bush I and II – often by cutting taxes for the rich while at the same time raising the budget to pay their cronies in the military-industrial complex. And #45 went beyond all sanity – but what did you expect from a guy who is massively in debt, leveraged to the hilt, and has experienced at least six bankruptcies?
The only time Republicans care about the national debt is when they can use it to attack Democrats trying to fix the problems Republicans created.
Evidently — apart from slavery — government spending was a big political issue, particularly mooted by non-Democratic parties such as the Whigs and Free Soilers. This was prior to the 14th amendment, of course.
Off-topic, I know, but because the idiot Free or Not is being his usual idiotic self today, I just thought I would post a couple of statements. One is from Free or Not’s braindead post recently, and the second is my own, purely for purposes of illustration. And here we go:
(1) There was NO insurrection on January 6. It was a Riot with FBIU agitators leading the organizing and Capitol Police opening the gates to escort people in. There are now political prisoners held with out trial for over two years and no trial! [obviously from Free or Not]
(2) The Loch Ness Monster faked the moon landing. [obviously from me, purely for purposes of illustration]
Now, neither one nor the other of these statements is more imbecilic than the other—they are exactly and equally imbecilic . No intelligent person would ever believe either—and, indeed, no intelligent person HAS ever believed either. Neither of one nor the other of these statements is more insane than the other—they are exactly and equally insane . No sane person would ever believe either—and, indeed, no sane person HAS ever believed either.
I’m stunned by how prolific Mr Carroll has become, all at once. Sometimes—often, actually—months would go by between postings. These things are so droll and so informative. (The high point of “droll” for me was Betsy Ross asking George W. is “everything is all right at home?”, as he is passionately necking with the newly-completed flag.)

You don’t solve a debt problem by defaulting.

It’s too bad that there is a large group of us who don’t feel obligated to pay for what they have already bought with their credit card.

Jackson found a lot of “open territory” once those nasty Cherokee and Choctow decided to move out west.

So, Andy fought Nicholas Biddle and the Second Bank of the United States because America was making the same mistake?
