The Trump / Repub 2017 tax cut was mainly for the benefit of corporations and the wealthy and added TRILLIONS to the debt and deficit. This budget AGAIN has too much of an increase for military, but also contains a lot of things that benefit the average person.

The military is close to unaccountable in spending its annual hundreds of billions. Literally unaccountable—an expensive army of auditors cannot account for around half of assets and expenditures! But no prob—just shovel more money at ‘em.

There’s always a huge bill to pay after a repug misadminstration, see also Nixon, Reagan, and Bush 1&2.

Must have missed the cartoon about the trillion dollar + budget deficits caused by the 2017 Trump tax cuts (as verified by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office).

An interesting point: we’re somehow foisting all this debt off on our grandchildren to pay…. but we are the grandchildren of people who incurred a lot of it and we still aren’t being asked to pay…. maybe instead of shorting the things that need to be done we need to increase revenue – fair taxing of the rich and corporations, ending subsidies of lucrative industries, and (gasp!), enabling the IRS to actually collect from those that owe, along with making them a whole lot more user-friendly.

Beckom is just touting the RW Meme of the Week. The only original part of his cartoon is to leave out the $1.7 trillion figure of the budget bill that the other RW shills dutifully put in and focus on the deficit.

The four Republican presidents since 1981 (Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Donald Trump) increased the federal deficit during their time in office.

The two Democratic presidents since 1981 (Bill Clinton, Barack Obama) decreased the federal deficit.

The biggest percent increase in the federal deficit among presidents since 1981 occurred under George W. Bush: 1,204% increase from FY 2002-2009.

Trump’s final budget ended on September 30, 2021, with a deficit of $2.77 trillion.

If the rich and corporations didn’t keep getting tax breaks all the time maybe the debt could be paid down, Trickle down doesn’t get it.

Republicans prefer that all tax the money goes to their rich supporters.

Its unfair that the tax dollars go back to the little people who actually pay taxes.

Republicans invented deficit spending. They figure if we cut taxes, but not spending we’ll have to cut social services like Social Security and Medicare and then America will be right again. Uh uh…

Still not enough to reach the deficit of the previous incompetent administration with a record 6.6T over 4 years or average 1.65T per year. We are so lucky that creep is fading out of the picture, finally.

Why dump on the current Congress and President? Wasn’t the last balanced budget brought in by Clinton? According to present Republican theory about deficits, shouldn’t Clinton be your hero, feted on Fox et al?

It’s funny how Republicans never talk about the deficit when they are in power and running it to record highs.

Thanks, Mike, for noting that the fault is with Congress, and not just with President Biden.
