“And I may even answer to it!” Of course, that depends on your definition of “Answer to it,” which is almost certainly not the same as Ora Zella’s.

“Mortadella” also rhymes with Ora Zella. I’m guessing there are probably entire antipasti platters that Ora Zella could work with?

Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati: A Beautiful Morning

    It’s a beautiful morning

And I’m lovin’ my brand new name

    A whole new game

Just smile and laugh and run around

I just love the sound, new name found

It’s my chance to show and let the world know who I am

    Gotta plan

    For this beautiful morning!

    …….

Ah, I feel like singin’ a brand new song

    So long,

I’m gonna be on my way now

Maybe later I’ll take a nap

    Or find a lap

Right now though I want to run all around, cover ground

It’s time to have fun while the sun shines

Never hide, all inside, let’s abide

    Ah, oh, doo, doo-wah

    Doo, do do-wah

    …….

I love my new name, there may be a chance there

When they all call me I may want to answer

Seems to me that I really enjoy it here

More and more each day, as I lead the way

It’s okay, morning, evening, day time, 2 am

    Ah, do, do-wah

    Ah, do, do-wah….

My girls are good about answering to their names. not necessarily coming as called though. Sara, lovely calico that she is, once even gave me a reply that sounded like she was saying WHAT! Just like i’d expect a middle school girl to answer her parents. highly annoyed.

We have two feral, gray tabbies that we feed on the front porch. The larger is male and we named him Fortran. He has been in several fights. The smaller is very small and extremely loud so we named her Dolby.

And thus her name is cemented. I also notice young Ora has really settled in. At first it was all threats of violence and kicking, and now it’s just joy at being named, playful kitten antics and kicking. I mean she’s still an agent of chaos and as seen with Lupin you never grow out of that, but she’s now a happy one. It’s also nice it really DIDN’T seem to take her long to go from being deeply paranoid of the family to throughly loving them. Though given the threat of her and Iggy being separated has clearly passed, it’s easy to see why, it’s just .. nice.

If you call the cats for dinner and good things, they’re more likely to answer.

Monroe knows his name. He doesn’t answer, just keeps bouncing around and such, but he does look at who is calling his name.

OZ seems pleased with her name.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Iggy Shipwright: Meet my cousin, Ziggy Starcrossed!

    Puckmosis: Glad to meet you!

Lupinium: How did you get the name Starcrossed?

Ziggy: I come from a long line of navigators. I can guide you anywhere on land or sea.

Iggy: I’m glad to see you. What brings you here?

Ziggy: Recently I was the navigator aboard the ship Red Planet Spider. One day a terrible storm came up, but the fearless crew saved the day.

Puckmosis: What happened to the ship and crew?

Ziggy: We managed to get to harbor safely, where a pair of fisher cat brothers helped us.

Iggy: You must mean Fresh and Salty Water Cats. They’re great guys.

Ziggy: They’re out catching fish for the New Year’s feast fish course. Some of the crew are lending a paw. They told me you have a wonderful group of Artisans who can help with ship repairs.

    Sound of Grumbling

Elvis-Anum: Who’s making all that noise?

Puckmosis: Elvis, meet Iggy’s cousin Ziggy. We’re going to the Royal Kitchen for tea and scones. Want to join us? (To Ziggy: Thomios always has something in the kitchen for late night snackers, and it’s no trouble to fix a pot of tea).

Elvis: Might as well. Glad to meet you, Ziggy.

Iggy: It’s almost 2 am. Want to join me in a before bedtime run after snackies, Ziggs?

    Ziggy: Love to!

Bartholomew does seem to recognize his name. When we were away for a couple of days, we set up the AlbertCam again (and that was painful). It has a talk function and Albert’s Man called “Bartholomew…” a few times and POP catface in the camera.

This was also the first time we left Bartholomew alone overnight and there seems to have been minimal destruction — the tree is still standing! He also seems to have missed us and snuggled with me for the first time this morning.

It’s not that cats do not hear you the first time you call. Most cats respond immediately by putting you on their Things to Do list.

With my cat Raz, all I have to do is step outside and call her name a couple of times, then go back inside. She always comes when called, within an hour. :)

My cat responds to her name… and “Mow Mow”..and especially “TREATS!” ..and “it’s bedtime!” and she’s learning “Birds!” (cause we have a new bird feeder behind 1 way film on the window so she can watch the birds without scaring them off)

PK answers to all her names, almost always with a response in the form of a tiny, short, gravelly meow. I drive Barbara crazy sometimes, because PK and I, we’ll get into a “conversation” of me calling here by her many names and hers responding. I think it’s fun, my wife not so much!

OT: Georgia shared about her great-great grandfather, an artist. Now we know where her talent began! “With the new Pinocchio movie out, I thought this might be interesting to share… My great great grandfather Rene Quentin illustrated the first American translation of Pinocchio, “Pinocchio’s Adventures in Wonderland”! It was published out of Boston, MA in 1898. Grandpa Quentin was an oil painter born in Paris, who immigrated to Canada and then later to Boston, before making his home in Providence, RI. He was my father’s great grandfather. He painted one of Queen Victoria’s Canadian portraits, and also the beautiful piece “The Fortune Teller” included at the end of this post. Many of his murals are still up today and you can see some of his artwork online in searches. My much adored Aunt Lizzie Dunn gave me this copy of Pinocchio from 1898 and I love it so much.If you’ve ever wondered if art or illustrating is in the blood… maybe?? I wish I had half of Grandpa Quentin’s ability to paint, though! Don’t get me wrong—I love my paintings! I’m a big fan of my own work. But look up some of his seascapes and landscapes…Simply gorgeous! I like to hope maybe I inherited a bit of his ability to tell a story in a scene. I would love to have had a chance to talk to him about illustrating and composing an image with characters. Maybe over a coffee, in Paris, Canada, Boston, or wherever his travels brought him.”
