Knowing Calvin, I’d think he’d consider all those to be good points! I mean, inky brine, pickle pulp, golly gee!

This one’s about 30 years old. Notice how Suzie’s face isn’t quite as developed as later.

My mother used to give me peanut butter sandwiches. This was in the olden days, before they were banned from schools.

A girl from a German family would trade her sausage sandwiches for my peanut butter sandwiches, because that’s what her mother gave her every day and she would get very very tired of them. I never found out what kind of sausage it was or where to get it, but they were delicious.

Another guy got head cheese sandwiches a lot. I traded with him once. Once. (Head cheese is a meat jelly made from the head meats of pigs [or other animals] — and back when I was in school that could include the brain.)

Mine were always healthy – marmite and walnuts, scrambled egg, lettuce and cheese etc always on wholemeal. Must have been good for me, but just sometimes, I longed for raspberry jam on white … No-one would trade with me either!

My mother-in-law made me a date sandwich to take to work. Odd. Chopped up dates do not do well between slices of bread.
