This reminds me of my cats. Achilles ran out twice, only to get on top of the catio and yell for us to come get him. How he gets up there is a mystery. We watch the doors very carefully now.
Jingle Belle Katt occasionally pulls the “Grey Ghost” and manages to squirt out the front door. Fortunately, she stays in the vicinity of our apartment building and is usually on the back porch yelling to come in within the hour. At least once she ran back to the front door within ten minutes, possibly because she met a hostile outdoor cat!
I rescued a gray/white kitty about 5 years ago, she was a feral and it sure doesn’t take much to bring that out in her. I recently acquired another gray kitty from a shelter who is about 1-1/2 years old so there is 4 years difference in their ages. Up until then, I have always had callies and torties, it is sheer chance that I have a couple of grays and certainly was not planned. Well, the grays double team me when the door is opened but usually they are easy to catch and put back in the house (I do not let my kitties outside – coyotes, hawks, eagles, owls, cars, and people). Freyja, the former feral, got out yesterday by opening the door herself (I still don’t know how she did it, I just heard the door open so I went to it). She panicked when she could not immediately get back in and saw everything as a threat including me. I tried to pick her up and have the bloody hand to prove it! Fortunately a couple of neighbors were walking by as I was trying to get her back in the house so they started to walk down the driveway to spook her back inside (after asking me if I though it would work). It worked like a charm. Grays are so ornery!

Our daughter’s cat is a bolter. She never goes more than 50 feet from the door and seems to enjoy being caught.

’Mantha did that once. After she realized that what was on the other side of the door was outside, she wanted back inside, pronto.
After that incident, she always moved deeper into the house whenever the door was opened.

One of my cats does this from time to time. Fortunately, he doesn’t get very far, and I’m able to get him back inside.
