I don’t think the ones who won’t tolerate taking a knee would even be aware. They’re not sophisticated enough.

I don’t agree with all of the messages—Assange and Snowden are fugitives from justice. But I agree with the sentiment.

English Premiere League actually started to make this point when they all started taking the knee before all games as a statement against racism in response to the George Floyd protests. Happened there rather than here but was definitely intended to show a contrast with the U.S.

Ted gets something right . . . We complain about China’s human rights (really political rights) and they clap right back about our human rights (lack of shelter, medical care, education, nutrition, etc). Of course, in reality China’s human rights are no better than ours

Yes Ted, we know. Not only do we suck, but we’re hypocrites as well.

Don’t look now, Ted, but there’s a very vocally anti-US athlete being held in Russia right now. For unrelated stupidity on her part, yes.

I guess I feel differently. While we would hate it, we wouldn’t imprison anyone for saying these things. Qataris on social media are calling for the fellow who ran on the field with a rainbow flag to be beheaded or at least stoned to death. Not to mention that Qatar is denying basic human rights to LGBTQ folks and to women, based on a religious belief that they are filthy; women have zero protections from domestic abuse, in fact. We’re a tad better than that. Oh, and the slavery they used to build those facilities isn’t so great, either. But that’s just me.

Very well said, people in glass houses should not throw stones. But at least it’s not the government, it’s the population that the points brought up apply too. With the exception of Snowden and Assange.

Just a very Few American sports fans don’t tolerate our own athletes kneeling during our National Anthem. They were led by someone who is not a sports fan, but only a fan of himself.

I don’t think the Frenchman belongs in here. First, French people pontificate as much towards Qataris (and others) as the Americans. Second, frankly, I don’t think many French people care about Assange and Snowden.Full transparency: I’m French.

We don’t have to imagine. The same Americans that don’t tolerate the act of protest on the sports field are the same ones that tell folks to “go back where they come from” outside the stadium.
