Me-ism was rampant then and is now, only people are chained to their cell phones and social media instead of gatherings where strange elixirs were imbibed or inhaled. No big change since then, just the central motivation.
When I was young. I went off to see the world. Joined the Air Force. 25 years later I retired. To a small quite place, with no explosions, bullets or bombs. I like my little quite place. Well except of the squirrels, dam sneaky squirrels!!!
Neither the pioneering spirit nor the hope of meaningful comfort and security will be quenched. When all the frontiers are tamed, pioneers look for frontiers in other areas to conquer. People who search for meaningful comfort eventually come to realize that comfort and security as an end in itself is meaningless. However, they always hold out hope that there is some greater comfort out there that the pioneers will come up with.
We are retired and travel. This year we went from Texas to the East coast, from Florida to New England, across the top of the U.S. and then back down from Washington to Nevada and back to Texas. To be honest I loved the epic road trip and but I was ready to stop and stay in one place for awhile.
Before I left college, I lived in five different states and several more towns/cities. I’ve since added to that, and I don’t expect that I’ve yet made my last move.
