No, Bok, Republicans are full-blown Fascists and Coal Miners are free to pursue careers waiting for them in the renewable energy careers of the future.
There are 62,345* people working in the coal industry as of 2022.
Compare that to 77,622 people who attended the Notre Dame football game on Saturday; we are not even talking about a full stadium of people here.
New jobs & retraining can be found for 62,345 people, much easier than we can repair the damage that burning coal inflicts on the environment. Bok is a certified idiot.
There’s an old phrase in politics that goes back many years: “Liberal panic.” Ever since the Kennedy assassination, the Democrats have been running primarily on the “fear factor.” Both capitalist parties are clueless, but the Democrats so deserve to get their butts kicked, for all the S—T they’ve put us through with their covidian regime.
One of the most articulate thinkers in this group was the early-20th-century philosopher Giovanni Gentile, whom Italian dictator Benito Mussolini called “the philosopher of fascism.” And many fascists, like Gentile, claim they are not opposed to democracy. On the contrary, they think of themselves as advocating a more pure version of it.
The idea that forms the bedrock of fascism is that there is a unity between the leader, the nation-state and the people.
But fascists have a different view. For example, Othmar Spann, whose thought was highly influential during the rise of fascism in Austria in the 1920s and 1930s, argued that society is not “the summation of independent individuals,” for this would make society a community only in a “mechanical” and therefore trivial sense.
On the contrary, for Spann and others, society is a group whose members share the same attitudes, beliefs, desires, view of history, religion, language and so on. It is not a collective; it is more like what Spann describes as a “super-individual.” And ordinary individuals are more like cells in a single large biological organism, not competing independent organisms important in themselves.
According to fascists, only those who share the correct attributes can be part of “the people” and therefore true members of society. Others are outsiders, perhaps tolerated as guests if they respect their place and society feels generous. But outsiders have no right to be part of the democratic order: Their votes should not count.
“A band of 22 coal mining counties across West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia have watched coal production decline to a quarter of the level seen just over a decade earlier, and coal jobs have fallen by 69.5%, as the U.S. shifts its power mix to lower-cost, lower-emission generation in the battle against climate change.”
“Despite a campaign promise to put coal miners back to work and support “beautiful clean coal,” President Donald Trump is on track to leave the White House with the nation posting the lowest coal production and jobs figures in recent history."
His silly caricature is half-correct (that part on the left). Coal is to be phased out as an energy source, not abruptly cancelled. It will likely still be needed, in much smaller amounts, for making steel.
He was wrong about one thing. The semi part. The Republican Party has thrown off their cloak and revealed themselves to be the traitorous fascist some of us recognized them to be when W. Bush the Deserter with his corrupt and grifting running mate Cheney ran for President and VP.
I find it amazing that those that say they support the troops, seem to support rich connected (senator dad) deserters and rich draft dodgers that can buy their way out of service much more. At least, those that stood up as conscientious objectors took a stand and fought for what they believed in. In many cases, such as Mohammad Ali taking a financial hit and set back to his boxing career for doing so. Much better than trying to weasel out and delay, getting 4 deferments, before finally finding a doctor that would lie about a nonexistent medical issue the fifth time. With Orange Traitor taking the fifth will likely become a trend in his future. He should have been indicted for many of his crimes, while the rest of the investigation continued.
Republicans are actively pursuing voter suppression and gerrymandering. The coal industry is dying already, and green jobs far outnumber the number of coal miners.
Coal miners ARE toast. Their product is almost useless. Their processes are so heavily automated that about 10% would be employed if the mines opened up.
Just ask the elevator operator, town crier, milkman and grocery stock boy.
Truth. And oddly, from Bok. MAGA Repubs ARE semi-fascists. And if we care about the future of the planet, coal should no longer be mined and burned for power.
@ChipBok – SOME people, some MAGA people are deplorables. Same for the left side. Why is coal SO important to you? To convert coal into energy we must dig it out of the ground and burn a relatively dirty material. Oil’s not that much better. Gas a little bit, but these carbon materials CAN be converted into other products we do need like plastics and asphalt. The more energy we can convert from wind, solar and even nuclear the better. Just like the conversion of horse to petroleum, it’s time Chippy, time to move on.

Coal’s slow death has nothing to do with Biden.

Just the other day Biden was bragging about how he was going to not allow any drilling for oil, or mining of coal.
The price of Diesel fuel is about to spike, and that means all the farmers and truckers will be hit.
Stand by to watch that spike carry in to everything that you need to live on.

And if the coal companies don’t start paying for the health care of their employees/retirees with black lung, the coal miners WILL be toast.

Both of those statements are entierly true… not sure what the problem is.
Although, the Democrats are becoming semi-fascists too… so it is a question of the “lesser of two evils”
