Jones needs to be prevented from declaring bankruptcy to avoid paying this.

I feel like it’s not enough. The Sandy Hook families deserve every penny Alex Jones has, every penny he has ever had, and every penny he will ever see.

The defamation wasn’t a one-time thing; Jones kept it up for years and encouraged his followers to persecute the parents of the murdered children. He made a lot of money from slandering them, too.

Don’t expect him to have to pay all $965 million, either. He may get the award reduced on appeal, he may manage to hide or disperse some of his assets, and he may be able to escape through the bankruptcy process.

I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think the plaintiffs will ever see a dime of that money, just like the Goldmans never did with OJ. Even worse, I don’t think this is going to deter Jones one bit, because he will never believe that he did anything wrong. The only thing I can hope is that it might make others think before they make outrageous claims against innocent people.

I think there’s a very fine line between free speech and libel/defamation. In general, I support free speech and wouldn’t want restrictions on media, even if I disagreed. However, there are no absolutes; so I think the awards, which I suspect are largely symbolic, came down on the correct side of that line.

He’s not only back on the air, he’s asking for donations to help pay the judgement. The station he is on should be the one paying, and they would have to declare bankruptcy. The worst you could do to Jones is deprive him of a way to spread his filth. And, even if he shoots himself, there will be someone else who is morally depraved enough to replace him.

These awards are NOT dis-chargeable in a personal bankruptcy because they are based on intentional tortious conduct. Jones will be hounded for the rest of his days for payment and any efforts at hiding income/assets could be met with contempt sanctions including imprisonment.

He can’t bankruptcy himself out of this. The plaintiffs will be able to hound him for any money he earns or has access to for the rest of his life until paid. He’s also facing previous contempt charges, and being a RWNJ can’t keep his mouth shut so more should be added.

How many decades before the appeals are exhausted?

My hope is that these judgments kill his Infowars brand and take away his megaphone. Prevent him from ever having a means of spreading his hate. The bigger problem is his audience, since you can’t fix stupid.

How much will they actually see?

May he end up homeless and humbled, but i doubt it would even make a difference to a moron like him.

It shocks me that the judgment didn’t include banning him from the airways for at least five years.
