Kind of fits with baseball since, as George Carlin also pointed out, the objective is to go home ! (Love that bit)

Football fans will act based on their perception of why the player left. One who gets cut by an unpopular coach will get a different reaction than one who’s perceived as being difficult and putting money above all else. (Including by the fans who are difficult and putting money above all else in their own careers)

Football is an aggressive sport that can make or break a guy’s rep from one little move or decision. Looking at you, Brady.

Mostly true. Sad exception to the case, Tom Glavine won almost 300 games with the Braves, but when he signed with the Mets at the end of his career he was booed in Atlanta. Messrs. Smoltz and Maddux were spared that indignity; think it likely related to Mr. Glavine’s role as team union rep during the 1993 strike. 10 years did not diminish the fan perspective.

The chances aren’t watching Yankees/Red Sox games or they would’ve had a very different conversation ;)

From the Andy Capp comments (where football is something else, but this led to a group of comments about calling it what it is in the parts of the world where it isn’t, and then about the other game period):

I say the NFL has more than enough money to get EACH team their own football! THAT way they don’t have to fight over the one football, and could play cooperatively! But sadly… no-one ever listens to me. sigh

Ever hear of Alex Rodriguez? Do you think he was warmly greeted in Seattle after signing with the Rangers?
