Eliminating public schools is an intermediate step toward the ultimate goal, that of eliminating democracy in America.

Republicans want to eliminate anything and everything that they can that is public. Schools, roads, parks, federal land, EPA, FDA, OSHA, et al.

This is pitiful. When will they start paying teachers what they’re worth?

But the Republicans would never cut funding for State or local police. They like having us pay for our own guards.

TRUTH… Tens of thousands of teacher openings are going unfilled as students head back to the classroom across the country, prompting school districts to do everything they can to address the dire teacher shortage.

Florida, which has about 8,000 open teaching positions, is taking an unusual approach to fill the vacancies. The state is allowing military veterans without a bachelor’s degree and no prior experience to apply for a temporary five-year teaching certificate while they finish their bachelor’s degrees.

Not everyone is on board with the new plan, though. Teachers’ unions across the state are against the idea, warning it will not help solve the long-term staffing issue.

“This doesn’t really get at the root of the problem,” Florida Education Association President Andrew Spar told Yahoo Finance Live. “We want to make sure that we have fully-trained, fully-credentialed teachers in our classroom with the experience and support they need to teach every child. This idea of shortcutting that process doesn’t work. It never has."

The idea was spearheaded by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who criticized union bosses for “insisting teachers get certain credentials” in a video posted to his Twitter account.

Through his new plan, veterans in the teacher roles are required to pass subject tests and have completed 60 college credits in order to qualify for the certificate.

“I appreciate out veterans,” Spar said. “I think we all do, and honor them for the work and service they’ve done to our country, keeping us safe, and protecting our freedoms.”

And while there are veterans that end up working in schools and become teachers through the traditional process, he said, “you can’t just say because someone has been in the military or someone has been in a classroom even, that makes them a highly qualified teacher. It takes skill, it takes training, and it takes a desire to be there.”

Still, the teacher shortage has reached crisis levels. There are currently 300,000 fewer teachers nationwide compared to before the pandemic, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as teachers are leaving the profession in droves. A recent survey from the American Federation of Teachers found that 74% of teachers were dissatisfied with their job, up from 41% two years ago.

Considering how useless most schools are, let’s put the money into libraries. Teach the little buggers to read and then let them loose in the Library. The one who don’t like to read, can go to work in the mills. What mills? Isn’t the G O P rolling the clock back to 1870? We’ll have lots of mills. Great places for a 9 year old to make a few pence.

There was a time we lauded nurses and then came the covid crazies and nurses left the profession. Now we have book burners, the don’t say gay presidential candidates, don’t upset white children with talk of slavery nuts and let’s arm schools to the hilt. Ooops where are the teachers going?

Here’s a plan: Put unqualified teachers in the minimum required public “schools” up to about fourth grade. Just enough to claim all the new babies have been “educated” before sending them to work in the fields and mansions. Spend real money on religious charter schools through grade twelve. The ones who make it through that indoctrination will be further groomed in religious colleges to be the leaders of the future! And we old folks can sit still and hope Social Security lasts longer than we do.

The business people will only have access to the golf course on the weekends after all teaching and preparation tasks are completed, but on their new salary they will not be able to afford it anyway. There will be no access to vendors who want to take them out to lunch, and the lunch hour will be limited to 30 minutes while supervising students. On days when they do not have recess duty, the business people will be permitted to use the staff restroom during the 15 minutes that another survival candidate is supervising their students. They will also be provided with two 40-minute planning periods per week while their students are having music or art class in the classroom and one 40-minute planning period while their students are having physical education in the gym. If the copier is operable, they may make copies of necessary materials at that time. The business people must continually advance their education on their own time, preferably during the summer months, and pay for this advanced training themselves. This can be accomplished either by moonlighting at a second job or marrying someone with a lot of money. The winner will be allowed to return to his or her corporate job

This is my daughter’s last year of teaching 3rd grade; she’s turned in her notice. She could tolerate the reality that the school board never supports teachers, but after 20 years, having it now “suggested” that she remove any books from her classroom written by non-white writers or that mention a child having 2 dads or 2 moms, was the final straw.

James M Buchanan, economist, segregationist, GOP has followed and is following his game plan to end public education so white kids don’t have to attend the same schools as non-whites. i.e. private schools get funded… Public schools not so much. Apologies in advance, I’m off topic, I know.

However. lately something is tracking my surfing a lot. I’ve checked my settings, OK.

Not sure what’s up. I have arrived at a solution. I’m going to click on everything.

Ads for incontinence, tesla cars, kangaroo hamburgers, whatever pops up.

If this works out, maybe they’ll think I’m a one legged marsupial tap dancer. Maybe.
