A buddy of mine got punished as a teen for mouthing off to his mom. His dad used the same words- before dad slammed him across a pool table, the long way. He got a laugh out of his dad when he said: “Dad, about that’hurting you more than me’, are you sure of the concept?”
Seeing that it really does hurt dad (or mom) more goes a long way to making a lesson stick. Getting spanked wasn’t a big deal, but knowing they are doing something they really hate to do, that makes it something you never want to repeat.
