The IRS has long had a policy of enforcing in such a way as to maximize return relative to the salary of the investigators. So they deliberately audit the mid-level tax payers. Top level folks hire accountants and lawyers and drag the process out. Small tax payers don’t have enough to make it worth their while to look for a few $$ of cheating. Guess who’s left…

Well, since Paying taxes IS the Law of the Land, shouldn’t the Cons be IN FAVOR of the expansion of the IRS, since they are “The Party of Law and Order”, or is that just more bull$#!T on their part?

It is said that the IRS is the only government agency that makes a profit. The greater the budget, the better.

The feds would need to devise a system to tax wealth as opposed to income as rich folk often show none.

I never thought I’d feel sympathy for the IRS, but I have for the last several years.

It would be nice if the application said to be tax knowledgeable and provide customer service for tax matters. The 87,000 agents will not relieve that backlog. But people making under $30K and taking the earned income credit better beware.

Funny thingRepublicans feel that people—especially lower income “urban” people—obey the law only when firmly and strongly policed.But wealthy people graciously pay their taxes without any need for oversight.

The IRS is part of the government. Qanoners/magas hate the department and all those who work there because their idol hates the IRS because he has, indeed, committed crimes.

I have a friend at my church who worked at the IRS (although she’s long since retired). She and I agree that the IRS has been woefully understaffed for years. And that they’re still using the highly obsolete COBOL software. I’m glad that they are finally allowed to hire more staff and update. Perhaps now they can go after offshore tax havens in Switzerland, The Caymans, etc. And to insure that multinational corporations and individual billionaires (like Elon Musk) pay their fair share. Taxes are the price one pays for living in a free society.

Where he heck are they going to get 87,000 new qualified agents? There aren’t enough payroll specialist or accountants to fill the private sector jobs needed in this country.

If they were proposing 87,000 new border agents, that might actually help America!

Republicans have been cheating the USA out of tax money for decades.

If we’re going to have a country it needs to be governed. And government isn’t free. Look at rural Afghanistan, which is ruled, even now, by feudal warlords. This is how the right envisions American government.
