(shrugs) Quite apparently, you cannot get USAians to use common-sense behavior. At least with Monkey Pox (so far) it appears to be spreading almost entirely among the folks who haven’t learned worth (monkey poo) from the Covid pandemic.
Monkeypox is overwhelmingly a gay man’s disease, so unless that’s you, you’re highly unlikely to contract it. If you are a gay man, do your community a favor and flatten the curve by being monogamous or keeping your pants on, which seems to be a problem for the gay community in some places.
It doesn’t appear to be a very deadly disease (no deaths in the US, so far) and if otherwise even just sort of healthy you’re in no danger. But it’s very unpleasant to go through and as you would expect, the government is way behind in preparedness and rolling out treatment protocols and vaccines. I believe the vaccine is an actual vaccine, unlike the covid shot. A gay man in MA has filed a complaint against the state with the AG’s office on behalf of the gay community citing the lack of responsiveness to Monkeypox. Good luck with that, buddy.
Monkey pox is in the same family as small pox. Here is a link to Dr. Fauci’s explanation of why we can’t use the large store of one small pox vaccine we have to fight monkey pox. Many with monkey pox are also HIV positive, and their damaged immune systems cannot tolerate the standard vaccine. A vaccine for the immuno-copromised is required.

More diseases are to come, no doubt. It’s starting to seem like the old running-in-and-out-of-doors-trope:

The current covid strain appears to have peaked in Seattle and hospitalizations are on the way down.
