Just curious but do 6th grade women’s restrooms have pad dispensers? I think that is Kat’s most immediate need.

She can pass the time in there by reading the latest periodical…

Since this is her first period I’m going to guess that neither of them has any pads handy. Charlotte might have to go to the nurse’s office.

They can make the girls watch all the videos and read all the books about what it’s going to be like that they want, but nothing really prepares them for the actual reality of it. It DOES feel like you’ve got something medically wrong with you.

One thing I think my mother did right raising me as a boy was that she was very open and matter-of-fact about such things. From when I was little, she always took care of her business with the bathroom door open. When I would come around, curious, she just explained what was happening, and showed me the supplies she was using, and where she threw them away. Thus, I never had any hangups about that part of the facts of life. I knew babies came from women from a very early age. What men and women did together to make it happen, however, I didn’t learn until I was almost a teen. She was more coy about that until she thought I “needed to know” at a much later age.

So we’re either calling heart’s doctor or the school nurse

I would like to apologise for what i said in yesterdays comic. I now understand the premise of the situation and that i was the one being stupid.

Not only did we all apparently call it, but this underlines what I got into yesterday. (And yes i’m going to get wordy again probably, deal with it. ): That Kat has anxiety, and on top of that this is embarassing for anyone. And this strip did have me think of something I didn’t yesterday, the possiblity of someone whose NOT charlotte walking in as this is a public restroom. I can’t blame Kat for not wanting to say “I got my first period” in a place where anyone could come in. While we’re all, as far as I can tell, mature adults here this is a middle school bathroom and kids can be awful. We’ve seen it with Dana early on before she shifted from antagonist to sam and diane thing with heart. It’s why I stressed sympathy for her: this is a LOT to deal with and you can’t blame Kat for not being at 100% considering the situation.

There is a lesson Dean must learn to…

PMS is that time of the month when women act like men do all the time.

If there was one kindness fate granted me, I got my first during the summer, while I was at home. By the time the next school year started, I had already had three, so I was better equipped to deal with it.

Now someone has to tell her that this will happening to her every month, more or less, for the next 40 or so years.

I have firsthand knowledge that severe hemorrhaging from an injury “down there” and menstruating feel nothing alike.
