On a side note: Eric Carle (the author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar) was a family friend. I think he would have appreciated the way Robert Ariail used it here.

I was worried about this when McConnell forced through two new members of The SCRR (Stupid Court of the Religious Right) (The third one was just unfortunate, not treasonous). I’m VERY sorry to see my worst predictions coming true.

It seems that we have two branches of government, the Judicial, and everyone else.

Think about this – The Squiggler just claimed to have a gun.

Now do y’all think we need to enact gun laws that work for most of the rest of the industrialized world and yet still allow hunters and sportsmen and women to persue their hobbies (just not other human beings)?

If that whackadoodle actually possesses a firearm, that’s a “red flag” if ever there was one.

Some don’t recognize the dangers of fascism because they are too young to have seen its effects, others are too complacent, too naive/gullible, too uneducated, too theocratic, too nationalistic, too misogynistic, too homophobic, too racist, etc, but the worst are those who — while fully aware of its destruction of freedom — are too ambitious in seeking to control the lives of all others that will not obey.

The classic film Judgment at Nuremberg centered on the trial of Nazi judges. The point was made with pinch-in-the-gut effectiveness that the horrors of the Third Reich were made possible only after the judiciary and consequently the law had been subverted via the complicity of the judges.

It’s a great movie. It’s solid history. It’s a warning.

Scalia justified his decisions by saying he was an originalist, meaning the Constitution says whatever I want it to say. The GOP Fundamentalist Cult judges don’t pretend to do even this.

Despite being in the minority, members of the SCOTUS, “Conservatives,” RWNJs, and white supremacists are attempting to drag this country back to their imaginary Jeffersonian agrarian idyl. The 1790 census (when Jefferson was Secretary of State), counted 5.3M Americans. Only white males owning 50 acres or more of land were permitted to vote, approximately 6% of the population. Free white men who did not own land, free white females, and slaves could not vote. In 1790 the American population was largely rural, making a living by farming. Our most recent census counted 332,403,650 Americans. Current estimates are that 83% of Americans live in urban areas. They do not work at farming. In pursuit of “small government,” the following are conservatives’ goals for their Jeffersonian America: 1. No women’s rights. 2. No civil rights for people of color, or for any other minority groups. 3. No immigration, other than Caucasians. 4. No labor unions. 5. No health insurance. 6. No legal recourse due to Republican-packed courts. 7. No social security. 8. No disability insurance. 9. No minimum wage. 10. No free and fair elections (ultimately, no elections). 11. Imposed state religion; government funding of religious schools. 12. Unregulated militias unchecked by Republican-packed courts. 13. No work on mitigating climate change; no environmental protections. 14. No free press. GOP politicians don’t care about the environment or mitigating climate change because they intend to stay permanently in office and use their money and power to take over remaining livable locations as environmental conditions worsen. Why do you people who support today’s GOP, Trump, and Trump wannabes think that you will come out winners under this regime?
