You know how some companies based in states where abortion is—or will be—illegal, are saying they’ll pay for their employees to go to a state in which abortion is legal? Some Texas legislators are already saying that they will prosecute any company that actually does this! This kind of thing is making it harder and harder for me to be proud to be a native Texan.

I think that, if any man found guilty of rape is is also found to be using Cialis, Viagra, etc., the drug company should be fined as an accomplice to the act.

Jackson was the worst decision since Dred Scott. It opens up numerous legal questions. For example, if South Dakota outlaws the medical procedure, while Minnesota legalizes it, can South Dakota forbid women from crossing the state line? Can South Dakota force Minnesota to extradite a woman who breaks South Dakota law and goes to Minnesota for her procedure? Could South Dakota imprison or otherwise penalize a South Dakota resident who goes to Minnesota for the procedure? What if someone opens up a clinic in a Minnesota town right on the South Dakota border and openly welcomes South Dakota women? Can South Dakota force such a clinic to shut down? Could such a clinic advertise their services through South Dakota radio stations or other media? If not, how about on a Minnesota radio station that can be easily heard in South Dakota?

A lot of constitutional issues there that will have to be decided.

roe v wade never forced a women to do one thing she didn’t want to do but the radical right “supreme court” will force women to do what they want them to do for years to come

Being a Democrat in Massachusetts and voting blue 99% of the time I have to say that I am very proud of our Republican Governor Charlie Baker. If he were to run again (which he isn’t) he would have my vote.

@Lola85: “You know how some companies based in states where abortion is—or will be—illegal, are saying they’ll pay for their employees to go to a state in which abortion is legal? Some Texas legislators are already saying that they will prosecute any company that actually does this!”

It seems to me that that would raise an interesting Constitutional issue… a state attempting to interfere in interstate commerce.

    1) If such a company had offices in more than one state. (And if not, they might quickly open one in another state.) Transporting employees between sites is a standard business practice, and thus an element of its “commerce”.

    2) Providing abortions is itself a service, and therefore “commerce”.

Can a state which controls the sale of alcohol within its borders prosecute a company for paying to hold an event in another state, at which its employees drink alcohol… and maybe even pay for their own drinks.

Hmm. And what if an employee, during free time from such an event — or from a business meeting, — just happens to go to a hospital instead of to a nightclub?

    3) And one step farther… How about a state in which abortion is legal suing (in federal court, of course) another state which attempts — through courts or passage of laws — interfere with the provision of services to non-resident individuals under the first state’s own laws?

Since most of those legislators voting to totally ban abortion also appear to be white supremacists, I wonder what would happen if their wife or daughter were raped by a black man. Would they really make her carry it to term?
