Ted is right on one thing: we need green initiatives because if global warming/climate change has not hit the point of no return, it will happen very soon. If the establishment tools in the DNC had any brains whatsoever, a Green New Deal would be prominent on their platform. I will not even mention the greed and how obtuse the repubbas are on this but Christ, you would think democrats could grasp the seriousness of this issue. Bernie gets it, so does Liz Warren and the Squad but few others in congress do as they apparently have other agendas which involve lobbyists, coin and 1%ers. The Green Party, DSA, and other assorted progressives have been preaching this for years but we are basically ignored except at election time when it is mentioned by many in the party of blue to bring in the votes and then environmental issues are put on the back burner again for 2 or 4 years, depending on the election cycle. Ted makes a point in that gun violence, inflation, $6/gallon gasoline and supply chain issues all are serious as is our loss of civil liberties via the |Supreme Court and far right legislation but if we do not get ahead of this impending environmental apocalypse which is coming fast and furious; society as we know it is going to be history like the Roman Empire, turn the page. BTW, nice reference to Gilligan’s Island in panel 3 Ted with the SS Minnow.

You got the existential part right here, Mr. Rall, but you missed on the magnitude. The US political conflict is only one of the numerous conflicts blocking effective climate actions.
Each side blaming the other avoids fixing problems. However, it does increase the hatred and division between Democrats and Republican members of Congress and between the voters.
Unless the Democratic Party is given the Congress it needs, an overwhelming majority, and maintains if for quite some time, the only ones that can take the blame is the ones that don’t vote or vote for Republicans.
When Republicans say they are going to steal your social security money to make up for tax cuts for the rich, they mean it. OK, they usually don’t say the quiet part out loud.
USGS indicates if all glaciers melted, oceans would rise 230 ft (70 meters) Nat Geo had it at 216 Ft. Most of Florida and all major coastal cities are drowned. Since this won’t happen instantaneously, (Nat Geo writes up to 5,000 years to melt 5 million cubic miles of ice) there is a lot of time to prepare.
With gradually warming temps, hybrids will be developed for food production that are tolerant of higher temps. Vast areas of previously unproductive land will be livable and arable for food production. Technology will develop energy sources that aren’t even in imagination today, as we head to the next expected ice age. Life goes on.

Apply the idea that the second coming of Jesus is upon us and you can understand Republican policies.
