Should have known the bondage gear gab wouldn’t last more than a day. And today we find out that Bernice, who never showed much interest in plain before is looking more plaid shirts. Plaid used to be a Frank and Gunther thing. Is Greg hinting that Bernice is thinking of becoming Bernand?

My clothes all look the same too. Find your style and stick with it. Makes it easy to get dressed in the morning.

This arc is exceedingly dull! :-(

Someone tell them that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Whatever, however Bern is now, gives off muse-y vibes to Nil when he’s with her. Put her in different clothes, she’s now a different Bern to Nil when he sees her.

Bernice has clearly been hanging around Gunther too long. She was showing more flair when she wore the scarf, to try to attract Jack

Does anyone see this arc going anywhere? Sadly, I don’t.

Bern and Gunnie have similar tastes in clothing. Maybe she’ll come across some of his stuff that Irma or Al might have donated.

Meanwhile, Nil sees Bernice as his muse exactly as she is.

Bern can just swap with Gunther.

LOL, I mentioned a few days ago that Bernice would go for something daring, like having the grids on the shirt go diagonal.

I seem to remember a bit from Peanuts when Charlie Brown went to his closet and all the shirts had that zigzag stripe in them.

I’m telling ya, she changes her look, she changes the muse status. It’s about the whole package – from personality to personal style. It’ll kick off a whole arc of them “breaking up” but not breaking up…

Hey Luann, i’m sure bernice appreciates your input but are you picking outfits out for HER or for YOU? The outfits you chose for bernice, accentuate her curves like showing off her bust and cleavage. Nil doesn’t like bernice in a romantic way, so he won’t notice revealing outfits.

Change is good.

This will be much more difficult than Luann thought. Bernice has been using that style for years and she doesn’t really want to change it, she can’t even think of trying something new just for fun! But there are two possibilities. Either Luann will be able to convince her to unlock herself and play along, this will be a lot of fun and Bernice will find a new “muse” way to dress, more suitable for the summer, that will make her happy, or Bernice will end up getting bored, feeling rather offended and confirmed in her summer/annual extremely serious “muse” look, without any chance to change.

Bernice = Boring

Bernice knows who she is. Luann is not gonna transform her. She is the traditional, classic, and simple type. Somehow, that inspires Nil. This seems to say simplicity inspires creativity for Nil. Whatever floats his boat. If you think Bernice’s choices in attire are too boring, look at yourself. You could use some fashion changes yourself.

In other word, she wants to remain the frump she already is!!

BTW, since when could Bernice afford silk??

I was thinking that there must be some reason G&K choose this “re-thread” shop as a setting as opposed to a place like Old Navy or wherever young folk go to buy their duds these days.

OK Greg. You have dragged out this “muse” arc long enough to the point that it is getting stale.

Years ago, I had a boyfriend who told me that if I was completely naked except for a pair of gloves, he’d fight to get those off my hands. Maybe for Nil, it isn’t about how much skin she shows but what she doesn’t show.

Tomorrow one of them trips on a rug and says “I’ve fallen and can’t get up!”.

Her career as a muse will be short-lived as the only thing she inspires is plaid

Call me perverse, but I want to see Bernice in the “leather and studs” look.

I can actually relate to this. I bought a shirt the other day and came home to find I had one just like it hanging in the closet LOL!

Luann is the one who thinks that everytime you do something different (in life) you have to have a new outfit. When Zebo asked if she wanted to be his TA all Luann could think of (on her first day) was what she would wear. But none of this matters. So it’s a relief today that Bern isn’t likely to go along with it. Besides, Bern knows how to dress up when she wants to and we’ve seen that.

I think we’re going to see Nil with a new muse.

Its been circling the drain for a few days now, imo.

What I don’t get about this little plot is that, if Bernice is already Nil’s muse, why are they looking to change her?

While I don’t think what Bernice chooses to wear has anything to do with why Nil considers her a muse I must say that Luann is picking some interesting fashion choices. I like the poet outfit and the green dress on the left of panel 2.

Maybe Bernice will put on something attractive and attract another admirer!

It seems as if Greg is making Bernice out to be the next Rose Gumbo.

I don’t think Im the only one, but I have several different “looks” depending on where I am, whom I’m with, and where I am going. As head of the library going to a county board meeting, Im in a power suit. I have 10 of them. Different styles for different seasons and different times of day. A strand of pearls (the woman equivalent of a tie), low heeled pumps and Im good to good. My every day attire is a nice dress and clogs. Keep that sweater handy, it gets cold in the summer. If Im going out with friends to a movie, jeans and a polo. Bern needs to get several looks, and a real haircut from a stylist. One that can be done up or relaxed with.

Duh!

G&K must’ve seen the TV Tropes entry for “Filler” and decided to add their own contribution, as this whole week has been the dictionary definition. Nothing gets advanced or resolved, the characters are in the same place at the end as they were in the beginning, and the whole thing could’ve been skipped over without missing anything in the overall story (though that last bit is thought-provoking as the strip itself doesn’t even seem to have an overall story since high school; it just kinda drifts along aimlessly now. At least back in high school the goal was “get through high school.” But that’s the nature of an open-ended story, I suppose.)

But it should be noted that dull and meaningless does not necessarily mean bad. And trust me, looking at other legitimately terrible strips reminds us that this one could be a whole lot worse. For example, these two could be spending an entire week complaining about a John Philip Sousa song being stuck in their heads.

I hope Luann can persuade Bernice to step outside her comfort zone and try something new. I think she’d look good in any of the outfits Luann is suggesting. If “the clothes make the woman”, it’s time for a change of clothes which might to lead to a change of attitude and a new path for Bernice.

Bernice dresses like she just got off her shift as a checker at a dollar store too cheap to pay for uniforms and hasn’t changed from the required outfit. How she ended up as anyone’s muse is beyond me.

Bernice could use a muse herself.
