Decades ago Coke (head offices in Atlanta when the South was the “Solid South”, i.e., mostly Democratic) was associated with the Democrats. Meanwhile, Pepsi (HQ in New York) was associated with the Republicans.
n.b.: “Tailgunner” Joe McCarthy, a rabid and incompetent Republican red-baiter, was risibly referred to as the “Pepsi-Cola Kid”.
I like my Coke with rum, or cherry flavored, Going to have to try Rum and Cherry Coke one of these days. Might as well try Rum and Pepsi too, while I’m at it.
I always preferred Coke to Pepsi (I hope I’m not hurting the feelings of the can in the cartoon) but over the years I’ve gone off the sweet sodas almost completely — I just don’t want the extra calories. For old times’ sake, I still occasionally get a Coke in a fast-food place (not frequenting those too much either, anymore), but my drink of choice in restaurants is seltzer (soda water, for the uninitiated). At home, I prefer to make my own.
Our family was always Coke drinkers, since one of Mom’s uncles managed a Coke bottling plant. But sometime in my twenties I had a Pepsi and have preferred the taste ever since then.

After Root Beer, Pepsi is my choice. If they have Coke and no Root Beer I go with Orange Soda. Coke gives me a headache

Pepsi is always second … after Dr Pepper for me. Coke doesn’t even make the list – the only drink worse is Fresca [Do they even still make that crap?]
