The sad thing is Biden is doing nothing to help, when the solution is so simple. Let’s get back to being energy INDEPENDENT like we were under Trump and “Drill, baby, Drill” right HERE.
National gas prices have doubled since Biden took office. Jan 2021 – Avg was $2.39. Now $4.81.Good luck trying to blame Trump for Jimmy Carter’s, oops, I mean Biden’s mishandling of the economy.
Is this an example of the “nothing” the Biden administration is doing as many Biden critics have claimed? Maybe it’s not enough; I don’t know I’m not an “expert” on oil markets as so many on this forum seemingly are.
What (continues to) amaze me is the lack of recognition that oil is a world-wide market. The “drill baby, drill” mantra if it occurred, could and likely would easily be offset by a DECREASE in production elsewhere. Plus the oil produced would just be part of the WORLD-WIDE supply.
The producing countries and the companies are in business to make money, why would they miss this golden opportunity to do so? Then, what’s the only way for people to be less impacted? Maybe some should look at the demand side of the equation?
Republicans say the White House is responsible for high gas prices. That’s ridiculous.
Why Absolutely Nothing Republicans Are Saying About Gas Prices Makes SenseMembers of the GOP have been saying that a big reason the cost of gas soared over the past few months is that the president simply hasn’t let oil companies drill enough.
Specifically, they say, the White House has bottled up American fossil fuel production by issuing fewer oil leases on federal lands and by stopping pipeline construction.
For example: Republicans on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee complained in a letter this month “there has not been one lease sale on federal lands since you imposed a ban in violation of federal law.” (They implored Biden to “take the shackles off American energy.”) And the House Republicans’ campaign chief blamed the gas price spike on the administration shutting down “drilling on federal lands,” “freezing all the permits” offered to oil drillers, and “killing the Keystone XL pipeline.”
It is true that U.S. oil production is lower now than it was in in February of 2020, when it hit an all-time record high of 12.8 million barrels. (That was before the market crashed at the onset of the coronavirus crisis.) But based on the GOP’s rhetoric, you might be tempted to think that U.S. oil production had collapsed since Biden stepped into the Oval Office.
That’s just not the case: In fact, oil production has actually increased, from about 11 million barrels per day to 11.5 million barrels through 2021. As Biden himself noted last week when announcing sanctions on Russian energy, domestic oil companies pumped more crude during the first year of his presidency than in the first year of Donald Trump’s. The number of oil rigs operating in the United States is still growing, too.
Gorrell, you are neither accurate or poignant. Hey, I’ve got and idea! Let’s blame Gorrell for everything! Yeah! That’s the ticket! BG, it’s YOUR Fault that gas prices are too high! You shouldn’t have let Putin invade Ukraine! Damn you for Covid, too! I didn’t win the lottery, you cheapskate!! And your toons are LAME! (oh…yeah, you are to blame for that…)
Maddow Blog | The problem(s) with Cruz blaming Biden for Texas’ energy troubles
Texas isn’t just facing questions about the state of its power grid, it’s also struggling with rising energy prices. Sen. Ted Cruz, however, has a message for his constituents: Blame the White House. The Republican senator tweeted over the weekend:
The same tweet referred readers to this Dallas Morning News report on rising energy prices in the Lone Star State.
So, a few things.
First, as Cruz almost certainly knows, Texas has its own independent system of power. Indeed, as regular readers may recall, in the continental United States, every state has to answer to federal regulators — except Texas, which goes its own way, with its own power grid.
What does the White House have to do with electricity costs in Texas? Effectively nothing, making the senator’s accusation plainly ridiculous.
Second, I don’t doubt that some far-right activists get worked up by mere references to the Green New Deal, but the climate goals haven’t been approved, and they also have nothing to do with the prices Texans are paying. (The senator lashed out again at the Green New Deal agenda yesterday, skipping past the nagging deal that the agenda hasn’t actually passed.)
Third, in an ironic twist, the Dallas Morning News article that Cruz referred people to quoted Alison Silverstein, an energy consultant who formerly worked with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Public Utility Commission of Texas, explaining, “Wind and solar are saving our wallets.”
In other words, the kind of renewable energy projects that Republicans are so skeptical of — for entirely political reasons — are actually helping consumers in Texas.
I keep hearing how presidents don’t control the price and availability of things which is not totally correct. Some reactions to actions can take a while to redirect. Trump negotiated with Saudi Arabia and Russia to cut production to increase oil prices. We are still dealing with that manipulation.

Well, this is where the Dem’s War on Energy has taken us.
Biden and Obama wanted to take America to where gas cost the same as it does in Europe.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! FORWARD!
