The Tulsa Police, a few days later, showed how it should be done when they ran toward that active shooter with guns drawn.

That’s a mighty broad brush. While I realize journalists need to write stories and comics write too, I look forward to the investigation and reporting out of what really happened in the hallway.

As an example, while they were waiting…was the mass murderer continuing to fire bullets? Was the CISD police chief in the hallway? Was 911 communicating to the hallway?

I don’t think we should blame the Uvalde Police for being spineless, sniveling cowards. Just because they finally had a chance to do their jobs and they failed miserably doesn’t mean we should rip them for it.

The chief said that he’ll wait to make a statement “when the parents stop mourning.”

    IOW, when Hell freezes over.

It seems like the police has mere minutes to make the decision to storm in and try to stop the shooter, he started firing almost immediately. Couldn’t the police hear his gunfire from outside?

Forget “defund the police”. Go with “dismantle the police department”.

You only have to ask, what if the children and teachers were the children and grandchildren of the political elite of Uvalde? A husband of one of the teachers died of a heart attack within hours of her death.

I feel sorry for the cops that wanted to go in, and were ordered not to.

Republiguns keep legal the weapons of war the cops are afraid of.

Republiguns do not respect human life.

I’m reasonably sure mistakes were made in Uvalde, but to arrive on the scene with inadequate info and go charging into the school with guns blazing would/could have been just as disastrous, or more.

What if the gunman had rigged a bomb to the door or was using the children as shields and were killed by officers rounds? A mad charge was not the smart thing to do. The officers on scene were in a lose/lose position, no matter what they did, they would receive criticism.

Instead of everyone ganging up and demanding knee-jerk reaction to a tragedy, let the system play out and determine what went wrong.

If a dishonest governor gives a dishonest press conference, but the media didn’t cover it, did it happen?

Glad the teacher they tried to blame for the door malfunction was found innocent. I’m going to guess their was a camera that exonerated her. If not, they would have interrogated her until she got tire and hunger and gave a false confession.

Turns out, when it comes to mass shootings, there IS a waiting period in Texas. Not for the gun purchase, of course. For the police.

Police exist to protect rich people’s property and arrest minorities, and that’s it. That’s how it has always been. Place I worked at got robbed, including some of my personal property. It took all of 2 days to figure out who did it namely because the guilty party showed up with my property at the other store’s location next county over. Was he stupid waving that stuff around? Nope, because he was the judge’s son and knew he’d get away with it, which he did. Notice how many cases go unsolved as you move down the economic ladder per zip code and how fast cases involving rich people get solved (or buried if they’re the ones that did the illegal thing). Yet we keep giving them 40-60% of the total budget.

Nice. But I wonder if any of the Uvalde police brass will get disciplined for this.

Every school should have an evacuation plan and a rendezvous point. If the police arrive and can’t responsibly say that all the classes and kids are accounted for at the rendezvous point, they should head on in with bullhorns blaring “Put down the gun and come out with your hands up.”, and if they hear a single additional shot they should bust down any doors necessary and go in with guns drawn, prepared to shoot.
