Actually what it’s time for is to get SCOTUS to actually read the freaking amendment and revise their idiot decision that the first clause doesn’t matter.

It’s just time to bring it into the modern world.

The irony is that it’s only the refusal by gun nuts to make any changes at all that precipitates people to even consider a wholesale repeal of the 2nd Amendment.

It doesn’t have to be that way. We know that the restrictions we’ve used in the past work. We just need to be willing to put them in place.

Some people like to ignore the well regulated militia phrase and just hype the right to bear arms segment. They seem to think the US Constitution is like a tree that one can prune at will and still expect it to flourish. Not gonna happen.

I think I explained my position adequately over the past couple of days. So when I say that I disagree with this cartoon, it may come as a surprise.

Gun ownership is a necessity for some people. I am a white male who lives in a white, affluent neighborhood. I can depend on my police department to protect me. I do not need to own a gun. Not everyone in my city is so fortunate.

My cousin now lives on a farm in Virginia. He does hunt for deer and kills one per season to stock his freezer. He doesn’t have to do this. He can afford to go to market and buy food. He and his wife choose to raise / hunt for part of what they eat.

He does, on occasion, need to get rid of predators that kill his chickens. He needs a rifle about as much as he needs his truck or tractor.

The point is, there are instances where people need a firearm in their daily existence.

When the Second Amendment was ratified, the United States had a very small standing army. The rule of the day is, “We’re having a war. You’re invited. Bring your own musket.” Therefore we have the wording of “a well regulated militia.”

Today, the “well regulated militia” is under Government control. It’s called the National Guard. Since the average civilian can’t afford fighter aircraft or tanks this is probably a good idea.

So, if you want to kill a lot of people in a short period of time, join the Guard and hopefully, a war will break out soon and you’ll get your wish.

For the average civilian, there should be no need to kill a lot of people in a short period of time. We are not expecting people like my cousin to take his bolt-action rifle into battle to repel a Canadian invasion. There is no reason for people to have military grade weapons.

A handgun is a very logical weapon for personal protection. A rifle is a reasonable weapon in a rural environment. An AR-15 has only one purpose: kill as many things as possible in as short a period to time as possible. It exceeds the needs of the civilian population.

It’s time to acknowledge and implement the “well regulated Militia” part of the Second Amendment. Congress can regulate gun ownership, and they should.

Please note that the “right of the people to keep and bear arms . . .” is a dependent clause. It rests on the need for a well regulated militia [army] which the US did not have at the time. We now HAVE AN ARMY. This amendment is no longer needed.it is time for this amendment to be repealed.

Actually the repeal of the STUPID 2nd Amendment won’t be sufficient UNLESS what follows is the TOTAL, COMPLETE and ABSOLUTE abolition of ALL firearms in PRIVATE hands followed by a nationwide CONFISCATION of ALL firearms in PRIVATE HANDS.

Repeal the ‘crazies’. But it’s who decides who the crazies are. Because the United States Army trained me, now I’ll be one because I enjoy target shooting, hunting and collecting history and art through a gun collection?

I have an idea. Something to greet our elected officials on both sides of the House and Senate as they come back to work from their hard-earned, taxpayer-funded vacation weekend.

It would be impractical to stack all the corpses from the multiple mass murders committed in the last week in the Rotunda, but we could have an exhibit. Let’s get pictures of the numerous victims and post them there.

Our brave, elected officials would then have to look at them as they go to their offices or go to vote. They would be forced to put faces of real people with the statistics that they argue over.

Also, I suggest, that in addition to the “yearbook-style” pictures of the deceased faces, they also show pictures of their dead bodies, soaked in blood laying where they were gunned down. A little blood and guts to add to the sterile, academic discussions in which our politicians are now engaged.

Ask them to contemplate that if teaching Critical Race Theory Mathematics to school children is traumatic, what would seeing a classmate being shot to death in front of their eyes do to the?

That’s the problem with our elected officials: they live in Ivory Towers with no contact with the real world.

I absolutely 100% agree. It is time for an effort similar to that which resulted in ratification of the 19th Amendment.

The second amendment’s chief purpose was to avoid the necessity of maintaining a standing army to serve the nation’s defense needs, which our Founders viewed as a threat to liberty. That point has been wholly mooted now. As the amendment is interpreted, it is now a major threat to liberty as well as to life. For example, most of its staunchest proponents are also supporters of Donald Trump, and many have threatened to use that amendment’s (misinterpreted) provisions to install him as a dictator.

No. Instead Enforce the 2nd Amendment. The majority of NRA members, and majority of all Americans favor gun regulations. Former Republican Supreme Court Justice and conservative ‘constitutional originalist’ Antonin Scalia said the 2nd Amendment allows for regulation. Enforce the laws we already have.

Our founding fathers based the 2nd Amendment on what were firearms in that era…. single loading muskets. Had they envisioned assault weapons, they would surely have worded it quite differently.

As a presumably enlightened society, we urgently need stricter regulation of who can purchase such weapons. The problem is, it is likely too late to do that because there are already so many of them out there and even in the unlikely event that the second amendment would be abolished, confiscation of all those weapons would be impossible and an attempt to do so by the government would likely result in a very bloody civil war.

Many more innocent people will be killed including children and our legislators will continue expressing their thoughts and prayers on cue but will realize it’s a problem with no viable solution comparable to the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Bottom line, we have made our bed and must now lie in it…. albeit in a pool of blood from time to time.

The 2nd Amendment worked until the NRA created its own interpretation of it ’sconcept of 2nd, then sent it out there and used it as propaganda to sell more guns.

If I remember correctly there was a gun called the “Saturday Night Special” that was used in a lot of murders in New York and elsewhere. Our goof and responsible government banned ownership or the sale of said guns.

The shredding of the 2nd Amendment is what the Left has wanted for decades, these last two slaughters just gave the spinless blobs an opportunity to say it outside their WOKE Progressive Bubble. Those of Us that chose to exercise that Right have heard your whispers. We also know many of you live lives in fear, afraid of all those things you yourself don’t understand. Honestly, I see this along with your Ministry of Truth is the death gurgle of your progressive movement, curtail Free Speach then come for our Weapons all before we wrestle away America in the next two elections. Revenge is another force at work today, Democrats are ticked off about failed programs like BBB, lock downs and vaccine mandates forces into bodies. Democrats are also apoplectic over the SCOTUS opinion on Roe if pregnant people can’t kill a thing inside them as they see fit well then, we also have the anti-groomer laws passed in Florida that Mickey wasn’t able to stop, election laws passed to stop Democrats from ballot harvesting, IDs required. Mix in the horrid job that babbling Brandon is doing. So sure, let’s have a profound Karen moment and repeal the 2nd Amendment out of spite if for no other reason. You know as long as Free Americans have the ultimate Trump Card [in more ways than DJT] Democrats cannot run roughshod over Rights you yourselves don’t need right now. Really short sighted but that’s what you guys are good at. Remember this …You had better bring yours if you’re coming to take mine. Everyone have a fantastic Memorial Day and don’t forget to remember all those who died to give you the rights to say this garbage.

What they gun nuts don’t understand is if they install the dictator of their choice, they will then lose all of their guns and not just the assault rifles.

The first thing a fascist dictator does is remove all weapons from civilians, even the ones that helped them get into power. Do you really think they’d trust suckers and losers with guns?

1 killed, 9 wounded in mass shootings less than 24 hours apart, 30 others wounded or killed by gunfire since Friday evening.

I had to dig for this news. It’s not a headline. It’s so commonplace, that it is no longer newsworthy since ONLY one person was killed. Better luck next time gunmen.

Trump says gun laws don’t work so let’s keep doing nothing. Trump Jr. says you can kill as many people with a baseball bat. Rep. Romney Jackson (R _Texas of course) says that it’s rap music and video games. I am still waiting for some Republican from Florida to chime in.

Too stupid for words. I am not making this up. I don’t think that the writers for the Three Stooges could come up with a script as silly and unbelievable as the above.
