In Germany gas is about $8 a gallon, but for about $10 you can buy a train ticket that will take you anywhere in Germany for the entire month of July. And middle quality beer (like Löwenbräu or Becks) is under $1 for a pint bottle in the grocery store. I’m lucky; I don’t have to pay for international air travel… I was thinking ahead.
Summer trip? I don’t travel at all. A big outing for me is to buy a city transit ticket to go to a store that is more than 2 miles away. Did that yesterday. I’m done traveling for another decade.
We’re going to OKC in late Oct for the American Quarter Horse World Show and I’m having heartburn over the cost of gas.I keep thinking about canceling it but it’s on Brads’ bucket list and I HAVE saved plenty for it so we’ll probably go.
Not only is the price of international airfare astronomical, but they kill you with the add-ons. It used to be that you could check at least one piece of luggage for free plus your carry-ons. Now they want $100 extra just to check in a piece of luggage. Seat selection is an additional charge, and of course, you are now charged extra for booking in at the airport.
We hadn’t flown for quite a while and had to cancel a couple of planned trips due to the pandemic, so when our niece – who considers my wife her second mother – sent us an invitation to her wedding in Oct. we were thrilled … until I started researching the airfares roundtrip from Guayaquil, Ecuador to Vigo, Spain. Good thing I’ve got a strong heart! The basic economy airfare I could live with, but it was all the additional fees that dam(n) near killed me!
We bought a $200 14’ above ground pool. We’re on a well, so water’s cheap (electric pump). Plenty of “free solar heat” for the pool. We are living high these days…
Don’t knock staycations. With the exception of the beach, I prefer them to driving around for days which was my dad’s idea of fun, particularly if camping (shudder) was involved.

After couple cans, you can’t tell the difference between a discount beer and the “quality” stuff.

That’s a genuine galvanized bucket they’re using, because anything else would be a pail imitation.

Gas in Canada is running around two loonies per litre.
And you thought five bucks a gallon was bad.

Was looking at flights to visit family now that the restrictions have lifted, from Canada to US was 50% more cost than Canada to the UK.

Yes, the price of gas in Chicago is $7 a gallon. Just another reason why I dislike it.
