There are several gun zealots (not including all gun owners in that, just the crazed ones) finally saying that “something” needs to be done about mental health. Considering that they are focusing on the shooter’s social media, let’s look at theirs. How many of them have “family pictures” of them with guns, including their small children holding very lethal weapons.
The breakdown of trust/respect in our government, of the people, by the people, and for the people, by corrupt [wannabe/multi-]millionaire representatives that serve lobbyists, corporations, and the ultrawealthy have nurtured an insecurety that leads some to believe that a gun can be more powerful than a vote/voice in our jaded republic. The free easy access to guns — instead of the free easy access to the polls that could make us truly free —allows corrupt election engineering that places powerful minority ideologies in control and We The People have little voice in governing.
Does the U.S. have a higher rate of mental illness than other nations? I doubt it. What it has is a society in which guns are about as hard to obtain as a box of Cracker Jacks and a Congress which has said that the shooting of school children, church goers, store shoppers, etc. is A-OK at the levels of insanity we’re seeing.
Parents may just have to revert back to the bad Covid days and have their kids learn at home. The kids might still be killed by a drive-by shooter or even molested by their parents, but they would be less likely to die or be traumatized by a mass killer.
F.Y.I.…FBI data found that in the first four months of 2022, 17 law enforcement officers were killed by gunfire in the line of duty. Of those 17 deaths, the FBI defined 16 as “felonious” — meaning the shots came from someone committing a crime or a civilian who accidentally fired a gun. The agency defined the 17th death as “accidental.” The FBI has not posted preliminary data for the month of May.
The Officer Down Memorial Page has recorded 21 on-duty law enforcement officers who died by gunfire this year as of May 25, with one of those deaths being accidental. It has recorded two gunfire deaths in May, neither of which were included in the FBI’s data.
As of May 25, the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund has recorded 20 firearms-related officer fatalities in 2022.
That puts on-duty law enforcement officer gunfire deaths between 17 and 21 so far this year. That’s less than the 24 children who died in school shootings this year.
IT’S MORE DANGEROUS TO BE A SCHOOL CHILD IN AMERICA THEN IT IS TO BE A POLICE OFFICER!!
The conservative right, in their quest to ban all abortions, tout “Life is a Human Right.” But they qualify that, by adding that “Gun Rights supersede Human Rights.” /s
If the Hate fueled left agenda was Not being taught to our youth & they weren’t raised playing video games, where they Kill hundreds of people a day, this wouldn’t be such a Huge problem. Teaching Anatomy vs preference, would be a Good start! PS: Kids, if you want to be taken seriously, Don’t make yourself look like a Clown. Many people judge a book by it’s cover.
Yes, “Inaction”. The shooter fired unopposed for the first 12 minutes outside the school, with the paid armed guard nowhere to be found. Police who were supposedly trained to immediately confront the shooter, even if it required ramming their vehicles into the building, instead waited at least 40 minutes for a tactical team to arrive while the kids were being butchered. Not that the facts will stop Brandon from jumping to conclusions for the sake of political currency. Or his disciples from the Church of the New Totalitarianism.
I loved that Cruz had no response, just a look on his face of someone with no valid logical response when asked why is the shooting just an American issue.
Massachusetts banned assault weapons in 2012… Instituted mandatory surrender of those things by the end of 2014… The noncompliance rate is something like 99.8%.
We need to do a better job of taking weaponry (at least temporarily) from people who are inclined to perform a mass shooting. We also need to do a better job of looking for signs that someone is disaffected enough for a mass shooting and take action before it happens. Evil will find a way, sadly, but we need to take assault rifles and other such lethal weapons out of the hands of those who aren’t soldiers. A reasonably fit person can outrun a guy with a knife or a baseball bat more easily than a guy with a gun. We also need to lift the stigma surrounding mental illness. Most mentally ill aren’t psychotic, but they have difficulty getting the help they need. As for those who are psychotic (or at least thinking that infamy is better than anonymity), let’s help them. But let’s ensure they can’t hurt themselves or others.

Not “inaction”, it’s “thoughts and prayers”, thinking of praying that no one notices that they are not doing anything functional.

Stupefied is the word that comes to mind when thinking of the Republican Congresspeople’s current state.

The new motto for the Republican Party has officially changed from “Make America great again” to become “The Republican Party loves dead children”.

It’s always been profits over the needs of people and well, guns are really quite profitable aren’t they?
