I am SO TIRED of “mourning a senseless tragedy”. SO FREAKING TIRED!!
How about we stop with the thoughts and prayers and DO something instead of mourning. Again. And again. How about a nationwide registry? How about spending money on projects that put people to work… meaningful work… so they can have some pride? How about free / easy access to mental health care? How about a moratorium on making or importing yet more weapons… along with a “show us your receipt and we’ll buy it for 200%… or 150% of assessed value” (and then melt ’em down)?
Until Congress gets off its ass for the first time in the last 100 years and does something serious to address gun access and mental health evaluations in this country, gun violence will continue. Save your tears because every gun death is an acceptable sacrifice to the right to own a gun with no obstacles Blame the GOP and the NRA. They’re the ones in the way.
1 million deaths from Covid but hey, it’s a hoax and nothing more than a flu, and masks and vaccines are not necessary. Oddly, countries that have been using masks and vaccines had far less deaths. Mass shootings in schools but hey, guns are not a problem, the people are… You know what? That’s true. It’s not guns that need to be banned, it’s the USA.
MTG is already claiming we don’t need more gun control. “We need to return to God.” How about we start with Jesus’ admonition that those who live by the sword will die by the sword? Or is that not in her “special” Bible?
Now, Mr. Ramirez, will you support positive preventive action? Will you help deflate the pernicious gun culture that poisons our country? Will you do more than cry?
America is the only country who has this mass murder problem! Children are the victims of greedy politicians who put MONEY before human lives….they do NOTHING to CHANGE!
Wonder what would happen if one of their own was murdered, raped or maimed?
Mike, aside from drawing this ’toon what are you willing to CHANGE to keep this from happening again and again? At this point drawing ANOTHER ’toon like this is not a change.
You aren’t a legislator, but you do have influence, in that people look for your ‘toons. Use that influence to change people’s minds about combat firearms in public hands. Shame the legislators who offer their “thoughts and prayers” to victims, but take money from the NRA and do nothing.
As Jesus’ older step-brother wrote:
And if a brother or sister be naked, and want daily food:
And one of you say to them: Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; yet give them not those things that are necessary for the body, what shall it profit?
The gun zealots (not including all gun owners in this group) want to have armed security in all schools – many have suggested to block the money slated to go to Ukraine to pay for it. This ignores the 2 police officers injured in Texas and the security guard killed in Buffalo. Both of the shooters wore body armor.
14, last I heard 19 (and counting).. mere collateral damage in the big picture of keeping America.. AMERICA. The land of freedom, where everyone is encouraged to be a true American and carry a gun. {sheesh}
Here is a suggestion for the cartoonist and anyone else who feigns being upset, blames mental illness, and offers “thoughts and prayers” as an example of caring and helping alleviate the problem. The reason for these shootings lies at your feet. Perhaps it’s time you grew up and took responsibility for once in your highly coddled life. Choices have consequences and your choice of harboring an inanimate object over a child’s life is both selfish and inhumane. Thoughts and prayers are useless without effective changes in policy and law. Spare me the specious and really stupid more guns and arm the teachers argument. If you want to blame anyone, blame the shooter, yourself, the parents, the Republican politicians, irresponsible gun owners, gun manufacturers, and ammunition manufacturers. Perhaps, it’s time we held gun manufacturers and sellers responsible for the violence and death in the same way we hold bartenders responsible if they serve alcohol to someone and the person kills a person while driving intoxicated. Nah, that will never happen. Why? Because it is sensible and requires actual work to affect policy change. Most Americans, instead of doing the right thing, would rather, like Trump, blame others than look in the mirror and realize that they are responsible for this and other issues and problems facing themselves and the country.
as long as there are human beings there will be killing by any means…the sooner you get over your delusional, irrational belief in the Big Lie of the inherent goodness of mankind the better…
Expecting “commonsense” legislation from either party in our legislative bodies is a pipedream. What happened yesterday in Texas was pepetrated by another kid who seems to self esteem issues, being raised by his grandparents who he clearly dud not respect. Like many young people who grew up in homes where no adult with parenting skills or discipline he places no value on human life and acts out in horrible ways. This may be a lost cause.
Conservatives should be honoring the sacrifices children in this country make so that everyone can exercise 2nd amendment rights in schools, stores, fast food restaurants, and other places of public accommodation. They have passionately supported this outcome for decades now…they must believe the children’s lives are worth it.
I watched FOX during the reporting of the tragedy. Their expert said the only way to prevent this kind of thing happening again was to post armed guards at every entry and exit of every school in America…. and the Fox interviewer agreed and said we need to arm all teachers also… let that sink in…..
How does this stop, the massacre at Tops, Dylan Roof killing of nine at church, the Mandalay shooting that left 60 dead and 411 wounded in Vegas….? it doesn’t
But Hey! The gun manufacturers are making out like bandits right now. Every gun lover with cash is buying weapons because they’re afraid the government will outlaw them.
I don’t know why they would think that. Obviously America does not care if children are gunned down in their classrooms.
When Pres. Biden said something to the same effect, Tucker Carlson’s broadly wise and penetrating response was to call it "Frail, confused, bitterly partisan, desecrating the memory of recently-murdered children with tired talking points, dividing the country… What a moment it would have been if he had stopped a sentence in and said, ’We’re going to pray for these families. “
Speak for yourself, you human septic tank. (Meaning no offense.)
After Texas shooting, Republicans face online anger over NRA money
Nineteen current or recent Republican senators, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Sens. Rob Portman (Ohio) and Joni Ernst (Iowa), have taken at least $1 million each in campaign contributions from the NRA over their careers, according to data compiled by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence in 2019.
Among the others is Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who expressed how “grief overwhelms the soul” in an attack like the one in Texas, and acknowledged on Twitter that his offer of prayers and condolences were “grossly inadequate” and that answers were needed. It didn’t take long for critics and liberals to slam Romney — who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and who spoke at the NRA’s annual convention that year — for taking more than $13 million in NRA contributions, according to Brady.
“Grief does not overwhelm the soul nearly as much as $13M from the NRA overwhelms your bank account,” wrote Jemele Hill, a contributing writer for the Atlantic. “The answer you seek is the money you continue to take.”
My kids were in middle and grade school when Sandy Hook happened. I sat a long time, watching them sleep that night. I vote. I voice my opinion. I don’t own any handguns or semi-automatic rifles, but it feels like I am trying to empty the Ocean with a table-spoon by myself, and those who can make real fundamental changes ignore me.
I sincerely wish I could leave this country some times. Tell the United States to suck it. I have often said to Marie, "Let’s move to Canada, Ireland, Scotland, or New Zealand. No country is perfect, but sanity concerning guns seems to be more prevalent in these Nations.
I have never been more pessimistic about the future of the United States than I am right now.
I liked how Abbott wrung his hands and said parents who drop their kids off at school should have a right to expect that the kids will still be alive when they pick them up again. Same governor who signed a slew of laws that loosen gun restrictions.

Republicans don’t give a crap about mental health, Reagan is famous for closing mental hospitals in Calif.
Traitor Trump should be in an institution for the criminally insane instead of leader of the party.
Republicans don’t want to debate because the public will see how extreme and crazy they are.
