He wasn’t “briefed” as to what the policy is.

The one time Biden said and did the right thing his staff had a knee-jerk reaction. After Ukraine, after Afghanistan yeah we need to be clear about what will happen if China attacks.

No different from any politician, how many time did they have to explain what Trump said was not what he meant. Most of the things he said have been his personal opinion not goverment policy.

Biden did NOT misspeak on American goals vis-a-vis Taiwan – we ARE committed to defending the “Nationalist” Chinese against the “Communist” Chinese, at least by treaty.

Are we willing to follow through on our commitments? Hard to say, but the world is watching how we D0 honor our commitments…

As an American Aborigine with a sense of history I can tell the world that our commitment to our word is more transactional than moral, but I guess there’s always a first-time, but my advice to Taiwan is “stop looking over your shoulder” looking for help – America has no track record for responding to the morality of other countries needing help when it goes against their financial interests.

Since the election of Donald Trump, nobody can ever again rely on the united states for intelligent behavior. Indeed, if anything, it seems to be getting worse. The party of Trump marches on, leaving a trail of wreckage where once a civilized nation stood. Good luck, America!

They can walk the comments back all they like, but in this case, he was speaking the official policy. It was just a hell of a lot blunter than it’s normally said.

Ask yourself whether you would prefer to live under Taiwan’s government or Communist China if those were your choices. Now ask yourself if we should stand behind Taiwan.
