I still say self checkout is a customer service blunder. The implied statement is, “You’re the paying customer, without you our store wouldn’t exist. So we’re going to go ahead and make you do some of the work so we can save even more on labor. Y’all come back real soon, y’hear?”
I had to go thru that farce myself as no open register with people. Took 30 minutes and 3 associates to get thru it. It would have taken about 3 minutes with a human.
I refuse to do it. I here are no tellers I have gone so far as to abandon the cart in front of a register and go someplace else. If there is a teller and they tell me there is a self check out open I ask for the code for employee discount since I am performing the work of an employee.
