Incredibly, there are a lot of people who belong in this picture. I have a mantra: If you find yourself wondering “What were they THINKING”… you’re using the wrong verb. It’s got a lot of use over the last 6 years or so…

And that 1M figure is just the COVID deaths we know about. Certain indirect COVID deaths such as suicide, homicide, increased traffic deaths, excess deaths due to the COVID overloaded health care system, and those due to co-morbidities — in addition to un-diagnosed or unreported COVID deaths make the real total higher. And this unknown total ignores the impact of long COVID.

As hoaxes go, it’s an absolute doozy. Lives have been shattered. The deaths caused by it are real. They have tried very hard to be honest about the deaths, but they have undercounted them in an effort to make the disease not so bad as it is. They don’t acknowledge the devastating effects of long Covid, either, that can be debilitating to the point of being a disability.

In 2017, the White House’s National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense survived the transition from Obama to Trump intact. Its mission was the same as when the Obama administration established it after the Ebola epidemic of 2014: to do everything possible within the vast powers and resources of the U.S. government to prepare for the next disease outbreak and prevent it from becoming an epidemic or pandemic. Working with international teams, they set up clinics in hot spots all over the world, whose job was to monitor the local situation and immediately send for adequate help to contain any threat. One of those clinics was in the Chinese province where Covid originated. One year later, the Trump White House dissolved the office, as part of the budget cuts needed when he cut taxes. The U.S. government’s slow and inadequate underscored the need for organized, accountable leadership to prepare for and respond to pandemic threats. The job of a White House pandemics office would have been to get ahead: to accelerate the response, empower experts, anticipate failures, and act quickly and transparently to solve problems. It’s impossible to assess the full impact of the 2018 decision to disband the White House office responsible for this work, but it is clear that eliminating the office contributed to the federal government’s sluggish response. What’s especially concerning about the absence of this office today is that it was originally set up because a previous epidemic made the need for it quite clear. When asked about the slow roll-out of coronavirus tests in the U.S. on March 13, President Trump responded, “I don’t take responsibility at all.” Trump is not just responsible for it. He owns it. The Trump Plague is not just his responsibility. It’s his fault.

The deniers who perished from Covid are the biggest group of Darwin Award winners. And new candidates every day as it ain’t going to go away during our lifetimes. So take measures to prevent getting sick and then spreading it or become part of the next cartoon strip about this subject.

OTOH, the government working with corporations to use this pandemic to rake in billions while (IMO, intentionally) completely fumbling the response, that is no hoax, it’s all too real.

The whole The COVID anti-vax thing comes from the anti-vax movement. They basically don’t understand 2 things, the doctor that started it all was an idiot fraud, and their general lack of understanding of medical science. They are the reason that measles, mumps, chickenpox, and whooping cough are coming back. Thanks a lot, morons.
